We love to cook, so the kitchen is always where we’re willing to splurge a little.

This 36” apron-front gunmetal sink was actually a spontaneous purchase from more than five years ago. I saw it on sale, fell in love with it instantly, and bought it without knowing exactly where it would end up. I just knew I wanted to save it for the right project.

Now it finally has its place, tucked into this corner beneath the expansive steel windows.

We paired it with a brass spring pull-down faucet that’s just as beautiful as it is practical, and kept the dishwasher close by for a smoother workflow while cooking and cleaning. We’re also finishing a built-in garbage drawer nearby so everything stays easy to reach, but hidden from view.

Still one of our favorite corners in the kitchen.

Once we chose these deep green KitKat tiles, every other finish followed: dark cabinetry, warm wood, quartz counters, brass hardware.

Definitely a splurge, but one we’d choose again instantly.

One thing we’re especially glad we planned for was the built-in coffee nook and drinks bar framing the kitchen entrance. It seemed like a small detail during the renovation, but it completely changes how the space functions.

Instead of everyone constantly walking through the kitchen for coffee, water, or a quick drink, there’s now a dedicated spot that feels connected to the kitchen without interrupting it. Morning coffee, afternoon iced drinks, late night tea runs, it all happens here.

Because we were so intentional about layered lighting throughout the home, we wanted this little nook to have its own warmth too. The brass picture sconce gives the whole corner a soft glow at night and makes it feel extra inviting.

It’s one of those additions that proves the smallest spaces often carry the most atmosphere, a gentle pause between spaces made for slow mornings, cold drinks, and conversations that linger a little longer.

We’ve always believed lighting should do more than simply brighten a room. The right layers of light can completely change how a space feels — adding warmth, depth, softness, and making even everyday moments feel a little more special.

The four sconces above the newly installed steel frame windows cast a soft evening glow and draw attention to the height of the room and highlight the beautiful lines of the steel windows at night. Along the uninterrupted prep counter, three pendant lights create pools of warm light for cooking and gathering. Spotlights gently illuminate the floor-to-ceiling pantry wall so the darker cabinetry still feels rich and dimensional at night, while recessed downlights provide focused working light over the sink and built-in range.

In the daytime, the kitchen is flooded with natural light and moving shadows from the trees outside. But at night, the layered lighting gives the space an entirely different feeling — calmer, softer, and almost cinematic.

The old kitchen always felt dim and closed off, even in the middle of the day. While renovating, we discovered these old steel frame windows rusting away in the yard, original to the house and forgotten for years. Restoring them and opening up the wall completely transformed the space.

Now the kitchen fills with soft natural light from morning until sunset, while the breeze moves through the space freely. What once felt enclosed now feels open, calm, and deeply connected to the outdoors.

Sometimes a home doesn’t need more space. It just needs more light, more air, and a little room to breathe.

We fell in love with this old house because it had good bones. The kitchen was chaotic, dysfunctional, and long overdue for a renovation, but underneath all of that was so much unrealized potential.

It definitely wasn’t without problems. The dated cabinets were riddled with anay and smelled like ipis, the sink barely worked, and the wiring was honestly sketchy and dangerous in places. The flow of the space was awkward and inefficient. Most people would’ve walked in and only seen the issues. We could see the vision.

What immediately drew us in was the incredible high ceiling lined with rich ipil wood and the vintage marble floor tiles, both filled with history and character. The kitchen felt dark and closed off, but we knew that opening it up and adding more windows for natural light would completely transform the feel of the room.

These are the before photos, right before we started bringing the vision to life.

Sharing this bathroom renovation we’re currently working on. It’s not completely finished yet—we’re still waiting on sconces and runner rugs, and holding off on the limewash paint for now.

So far, we’re very happy with how it’s turned out. We kept the existing layout to control costs, but made a few targeted changes to improve function and flow—like converting part of the shower area into built-in storage for towels, essentials, and a laundry bin.

Not shown in the photos are additional built-in shelves beside the vanity for everyday items, as well as a recessed shower niche for toiletries.

Great job to our talented & incredibly hard-working team for bringing this together.
