🌊🤝 Bayanihan at Sea

Following the grounding of M/Y Philippine Siren in Tubbataha on 14 June, the diving community came together in an inspiring display of unity and support. From assisting guests and crew to providing transport, supplies, meals, and accommodation, liveaboard operators and the Philippine Coast Guard responded with compassion and teamwork. 💙⚓

In times of crisis, competition fades, and bayanihan shines. Thank you to everyone who stepped up to help. Together, we protect both our people and our reefs. 🌊🐠

Bayanihan at Sea 🌊🤝

On 14 June, M/Y Philippine Siren ran aground in Tubbataha after an unexpectedly strong squall struck at around 2 a.m. Other divers in the park felt it too. It came suddenly, catching everyone by surprise. ⛈️

The Philippine Coast Guard answered our call without delay. Its vessel, MRRV-4411, remains on site, helping ensure that further harm to the reef is kept to a minimum. 🛟⚓

The damage has been done, and there is much work ahead. But amid the crisis, something beautiful appeared. 💙

Like a wounded body sending every healthy cell to its injured part, the Tubbataha dive community moved as one. M/Y Resolute welcomed Siren’s guests without hesitation. M/Y Solitude One brought them safely to Puerto Princesa. R/V Almaroon Intrepid housed the crew. M/Y Seadoors made sure the tired crew did not go hungry, cooking them a warm meal yesterday. 🍲 M/Y Zamerdius and M/Y Stella Maris Explorer volunteered to help. M/Y Dolphin and M/Y Narayana ferried supplies and equipment. And I have no doubt that the other operators were standing ready too, waiting only to be called upon. 🚢🤲

These vessels compete for the same community of scuba divers, yet in trouble, competition disappeared. What remained was kindness, courage, and bayanihan. How comforting to know that, in the scuba diving community, even those you compete with will stand beside you, carry some of the weight, and not let you fall. 🤝💙
