The 'mother of all parks' in Baguio city, the summer capital of the Philippines, is a 32.84-hectare park designed by, and named after, American architect and urban planner Daniel Hudson Burnham, who also designed the original plan for Baguio City as well as Dewey Boulevard (now Roxas Boulevard) in Manila. The park has 12 main areas, the most popular of which are the Burnham Lagoon, a man-made lake with rowboats for hire; a children's playground; a skating rink; the Rose Garden and the Picnic Grove.

A visit to Baguio City is never complete without a stop at Camp John Hay. The place has everything everyone loves about the city — recreation and a respite from the heavy jolt of urban living.

Established on October 25, 1903 , it has undergone major changes over its 100-year history. But I’ll spare you the lengthy history lesson. The short of it is this: Formerly an R&R (rest and recreation) station exclusively for the US Armed Forces in the Philippines, the camp was named after Pres. Theodore Roosevelt’s Secretary of State John Milton Hay. It was bombed by attacking Japanese forces during World War II, and fell back in the hands of the Americans in 1945. Almost half a century later, it was turned over to the Philippine government, which transformed the site into a tourist attraction.

The main attractions in Mines View Park nowadays would be the commercial activities such as the souvenir and silverworks stores by the park. The one especially worth visiting is Rimando's, that offers the best carved artifacts, on the Gibraltar side.

Baguio City started out as an American mining town in the early 20th Century, and one of its lasting attractions is Mines View Park. A ridge located at the extreme northeast side of the city, past The Mansion and Wright Park, Mines View Park boasts of a spectacular view of Benguet's gold and copper mines and the Cordillera mountains.

In Wright Park, you can dressed up as an igorot using their traditional clothes and ornaments. The pictorial was fun because you don't get to just posed and smile but you have to don a costume and get the feel of being a part of the ancient tradition in that place. It's the best remembrance one could have when you're able to get a beat of their culture.
