Whether you're a first-time traveler or a frequent flyer, it's important to know the airport rules and reminders that can help you avoid delays, offloading, or unnecessary inconvenience. Here are some important things every traveler should know before flying.
1. Never joke about bombs, terrorism, or hijacking.
Avoid making statements such as:
• "I have a bomb in my bag." / "May bomba ako sa bag ko."
• "I'm a terrorist!" / "Terorista ako!"
• "I'm going to hijack the plane!" / "Iha-hijack ko ang eroplano!"
Airports have a zero-tolerance policy for these statements. Even if intended as a joke, they may result in questioning, detention, offloading, or legal action.
2. Never accept or hold bags or personal belongings from strangers.
Be cautious if someone asks:
• "Can you hold my bag for a while?" / "Pwede pahawak muna ng bag ko?"
• "Can you carry this for me?" / "Pwede pakihawak nito?"
• "Can you hand this over?" / "Pwede pakiabot nito?"
This is a known airport scam. You may be held responsible if the bag contains prohibited or illegal items.
3. Never use fake or altered travel documents.
This includes:
• Fake IDs / Pekeng ID
• Edited flight tickets
• Fake hotel bookings
• Fake Certificate of Employment (COE)
• Fake bank statements
Using fraudulent documents may result in denied boarding, legal penalties, or future travel restrictions.
4. Always provide truthful and consistent information during immigration interviews.
Be honest when asked about:
• Destination / Saan ang destinasyon
• Purpose of travel / Layunin ng travel
• Occupation / Trabaho
• Length of stay / Gaano katagal ang stay
• Travel companion / Sino ang kasama
Your answers should always match your supporting documents.
5. Treat airport and immigration personnel with respect.
Remain calm and courteous at all times. Avoid:
• Shouting / Pagsigaw
• Swearing / Pagmumura
• Arguing with officers / Pakikipag-away
• Being disrespectful / Pagiging bastos
6. Check your baggage before leaving for the airport.
Always review your airline's baggage policy and ensure that you are not carrying prohibited items such as:
• Sharp objects / Matutulis na bagay
• Flammable materials
• Excess lighters
• Illegal substances
7. Arrive at the airport early.
