Sagay Young Tourism Volunteer Learning Tour Feedback

Let the youth know. Let them care & preserve.

A journey to carry forward our heritage, culture and destinations through hands-on and interactive learning. The tour aims to strengthen awareness of sustainable tourism and local conservation, while helping the youth understand why we champion a “Low Volume, High Value” approach protecting what makes Sagay unique for generations to come, and to deeply connect our youth to our communities and nature.

This as we continue to spread the pride of place and love for Sagay City.

Sagay Young Tourism Volunteers (SYTV) as Ecotourists

We cannot truly say that we know a place simply by looking at it. We may describe its physical beauty, but to fully understand its history, culture, and significance, we must immerse ourselves in the community and experience it firsthand.

Last July 31, this privilege was given to the Sagay Young Tourism Volunteers (SYTV), who had the opportunity to explore four of Sagay’s tourism destinations through hands-on and meaningful experiences. They learned about marine preservation and conservation, witnessed how communities have protected mangroves through the years, and experienced a Sikad Tour where the history and culture of the community were shared through the stories of elders and local people.

SYTV is an eleven-year youth program inspired by Mayor Bebo Cueva as young sustainable tourism advocates and tourism ambassadors of Sagay City.

More than simply visiting destinations, the experience taught these young Sagaynon that being an ecotourist means learning, connecting, respecting, and helping protect the natural and cultural heritage of Sagay.

SYTV — exploring not only to see, but to understand, appreciate and protect.
