VIETNAM DECEMBER PACKING & TRAVEL CHECKLIST

1. NORTH - Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh

Weather: 5-24°C, cold, foggy, dry

• Pack: Thick jacket / down jacket for Sapa, sweater, long pants, scarf, closed shoes. Light raincoat just in case.

• Tips: Sapa & Ha Giang can drop to 5°C in morning, best for trekking but start early. Halong Bay cruises are clear and beautiful but chilly on deck at night. Book Sapa trains/buses early.

2. CENTRAL - Phong Nha, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An

Weather: 10-27°C, mixed, north-central still cold & wet, south-central warming up

• Pack: Layers! Light jacket + t-shirt combo, waterproof jacket for Phong Nha/Hue, sandals + sneakers.

• Tips: Phong Nha caves still good but water is cold. Hue is moody and great for photos. Hoi An / Da Nang is perfect — not too hot, ideal for beach + old town.

3. SOUTH & HIGHLANDS - Da Lat, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, HCMC, Mekong, Phu Quoc

Weather: 12-32°C, hot, sunny, dry — peak season

• Pack: Summer clothes, shorts, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, swimsuit.

• Tips:
○ Da Lat: 12°C at night — bring one warm hoodie.
○ HCMC (you!): 23-32°C — hottest and dry, perfect for city tours.
○ Phu Quoc / Mui Ne / Nha Trang: Best beach time of the year. Book Phu Quoc resorts 2-3 months ahead, it sells out.

Universal for December:

• Cash + light layers in hand carry (north to south temp difference is 20°C!)
• Reusable water bottle
• Power bank - lots of boat/cave days
