Watch out for the SAKAYAN FESTIVAL 2023: In celebration of the 22nd Cityhood Anniversary of the Happy City of Isabela de Basilan. Series of activities and events will take place from April 25 - May 06, 2023, unleashing the colors of our community ---
the ingenuity, creativity, food, smiles and many more --- all for Its More Fun in Isabela de Basilan!

MANY COLORS, ONE RAINBOW

- Many Colors, One Rainbow echoes the Department of Tourism’s Colors of Mindanao campaign of unravelling the kaleidoscope of hues and tinctures of sights and sounds that paint a vivid mural of Southern Philippines. This vivacity in diversity is a living, thrilling experience in Isabela de Basilan – where a stunning mélange of landscapes and seascapes is a backdrop to a pulsating rainbow of peoples and their history and identity, painting a mosaic of arts, culture and traditions uniquely Isabeleño.

- The smiles and splendors of the Isabeleño spirit is symbolized by the iconic sakayan, its exuberant colors dotting like twinkling stars in the wide expanse of the Malamawi Channel, ferrying the local economy in their planks and driving a confident city into the future.

- Thus, the 22nd Cityhood Anniversary of Isabela carries the theme Many Colors, One Rainbow to speak of Isabela de Basilan of the multicultural and the plural, of the terrestrial and the fluvial, of the musical and the spectacular. These sakayans journey through oceans of challenges but the daunting is inspiring for the animo Isabeleño – where the courage surf through the swells and the surges toward the horizon of promise – of a city that realizes a happy and dignified life for all.

NORTHEASTERN MINDANAO

•White Island is an uninhabited white sandbar located about 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) off the northern shore of Mambajao in the volcanic island of Camiguin in the Philippines. The island is generally horseshoe shaped, although the tides constantly resize and reshape its exact form. There are no trees or shelter of any kind, and it is composed solely of white sands.

•Sinuglaw is a dish composed of grilled pork belly and fish ceviche. This can be considered as a main dish or an appetizer. The name “sinuglaw” was derived from two famous cooking methods in the Visayas and Mindanao areas: sugba, meaning to grill; and kinilaw, which means to cook by soaking in vinegar or citric acid.

This Ilocos Empanada is a deliciously fried pastry stuffed with a savory vegetable filling that makes a scrumptious side dish. It’s so hearty, easy to cook, and vegetarian-friendly!

Empanada is a half-circle shaped pastry with a savory filling. Its name comes from the Galician verb empanar which means “enbreaded” or wrapped in bread. It’s usually made by folding dough over a filling, which may consist of meat or vegetables, and then baking or frying the dough.
