Its distinctive design, resembling the durian fruit, features aluminum sunshades that reduce heat and glare, combining aesthetics with functionality. Construction began in 1996 and was completed in six years, with the official opening on October 12, 2002. Spearheaded by the Singapore government and the National Arts Council, the Esplanade was a significant cultural initiative aimed at establishing Singapore as a global city for the arts. The venue features a concert hall with a capacity of about 1,600 seats and a theatre that can accommodate around 2,000 people. The Merlion, a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is an iconic symbol of Singapore. Created in 1964 by Fraser Brunner for the Singapore Tourism Board, the Merlion represents the city's origins and aspirations. The lion's head symbolizes "Singapura," which means "Lion City" in Malay, reflecting the legend of Prince Sang Nila Utama who named the city after spotting a lion. The fish body signifies Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village and its connection to the sea. Standing at 8.6 meters tall and weighing 70 tons, the original Merlion statue is located at Merlion Park, overlooking Marina Bay. This statue spouts water from its mouth, creating a picturesque scene popular among tourists. There are also several other Merlion statues around Singapore, each attracting visitors eager to capture a piece of the city’s rich heritage and modern vibrancy.

Candelaria Church, also known as Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, is a stunning blend of faith and history. Built in 1874, its grand architecture, with twin bell towers and intricate stone carvings, immediately captures your attention.

Inside, the serene ambiance, high ceilings, and beautiful stained glass windows create a peaceful space. The statue of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, believed to be miraculous, draws many visitors, especially during the Jaro Fiesta in February.

Across the street is the unique Jaro Belfry, offering panoramic views of the district. Surviving the 1948 earthquake, it stands as a symbol of the community's resilience.

Visiting Candelaria Church is a must for anyone in Iloilo City. It’s a place where you can appreciate architectural beauty, rich history, and spiritual significance all at once.

The facade blends European and Asian styles, featuring intricate carvings and statues. It showcases Catholic symbols alongside Chinese elements, reflecting Macau’s diverse cultural history.
