Jovita Fuentes, noted Filipino operatic singer, received a royal wel
come in Surigao when she visited that town on December 31. Hun
dreds jammed the pier and a band played "Mabuhay" as Miss
Fuentes and her party landed. In the photo, Miss Fuentes is the
lady in the foreground. Behind her is Miss Amparo Acuha, pianist.
The gentleman at the right is Attorney Hernando Corvera, who ac
companied the party from Cebu. Miss Fuentes can be seen holding
the key to the town presented to her by the townspeople.

IN PHOTOS | 2 PH Navy Senior Officers earn one-star rank
The Philippine Navy held a Donning of Ranks Ceremony for two newly promoted flag officers, presided over by Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta PN, Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy on March 18, 2025, at the Navy Headquarters in Manila.
Promoted to the rank of Commodore were Commodore Lued L Lincuna PN, Commander, Littoral Combat Force and Commodore Sergio M Bartolome PN, Deputy Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command.
Vice Admiral Ezpeleta congratulated Commodore Lincuna and Commodore Bartolome and emphasized the weight of responsibility that comes with their promotion.
“Your promotion has bestowed upon you the opportunity to lead and make a difference. But remember, attaining a higher rank also comes with greater responsibility and accountability,” he said in his remarks.
The promotion of Commo. Lincuna and Commo. Bartolome highlights the Philippine Navy’s commitment to developing strong and capable leaders as it continues to enhance its operational readiness and maritime defense posture.
