Balicasag Island – Panglao Bohol
History: The establishment was made during the Marine Conservation Development Program of Silliman University in 1985-86. This was in response to rampant illegal and destructive fishing occurring in the area in the early 1980’s. Since that time, diving tourism continued to grow.
What is Balicasag Island known for?
Although this circle island only has a diameter of about 600 meters, it is surrounded by waters teeming with marine life. In light of the several species of aquatic animals found here, the island has been declared a marine sanctuary since 1985. It is also known as one of the top diving spots in the Philippines.
