FOR AWARENESS ⚠️
To those planning to go to Bantayan Island, please be careful when booking online, especially through pages offering very tempting deals. I was one of the latest victims of an online scam.
I made a booking through a page that I thought was legitimate. I even asked for their bank account details, and the account name matched the resort, so I became confident it was real.
However, last night they suddenly asked for an additional payment for a “safety deposit.” I found it suspicious because deposits like that are usually collected upon check-in, not in advance. They kept insisting that I pay immediately, and that’s when I started to suspect something was wrong.
I contacted someone I know in Bantayan to verify the page, and sadly, he confirmed that it was a fake account. 😩😭 He also said that this has already happened many times and that many tourists have already been victimized.
I was able to get the contact number of La Playa and talked to one of their staff members. They confirmed that I was scammed and clarified that they do not have an official page. 😩😩😩
Please be extra careful if you’re planning to visit Bantayan Island. To stay safe, it’s better to book through trusted platforms like Agoda or Booking.com instead.
Sharing this so others can avoid being scammed too.
