We also extend our sincere appreciation to Board Member Hon. Atty. Ranulfo Jose Z. Pepito, Jr., the author of the recognition, for his initiative in honoring Datu Arayan’s exemplary contribution and for his continued support to the Indigenous Peoples and the arts in Bukidnon.

Through your exemplary work, you have given voice to the plight, culture, and heritage of our Indigenous communities, fostering greater understanding and appreciation both locally and internationally. The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pangantucan, under the active and dedicated leadership of Hon. Mayor Manolito G. Garces, extends its heartfelt gratitude to the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM), UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB), DENR Region 10, PENRO Bukidnon, and the Protected Area Management Boards of Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park and Mt. Kalatungan Range Natural Park for the invaluable opportunity to participate as observers.

On behalf of Mayor Garces, Ms. Lea M. Apal, the Municipal Tourism Officer, was invited to join the team representing the LGU in the Protected Area Management Board of Mt. Kalatungan. The team also included Dr. Loreta Sol L. Dinlayan, Director of the Bukidnon Studies Center at Bukidnon State University, representing the academe, as well as Ms. Zorabel May S. Ramos and Ms. Ilane Gwen S. Cabaling from the Protected Area Management Offices of Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Kitanglad, respectively.

The delegation attended the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚, held from 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟗–𝟐𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, at the Hilton Manila. As observers, they had the privilege of listening to presentations from nominees and applicants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and participated in consultations with international experts.

The team also took the opportunity to showcase local coffee products produced by communities at the foothills of the twin mountains. This initiative was made possible through the support of the UNESCO Philippine Commission and DENR, in partnership with the NCCA and other stakeholders.

The first day of the workshop focused on lectures and presentations highlighting the challenges and best practices of World Heritage Sites. The second day was dedicated to consultations, where applicants and nominees received feedback on their submitted documents and discussed their sites’ Outstanding Universal Values, stories, and attributes. Observers were allowed to join groups with sites similar to their own, providing a valuable opportunity to assess and prepare for possible future applications.

On the third day, participants enjoyed a morning excursion to San Agustin Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explored Intramuros, Manila, including Baluarte and Fort Santiago. This experience underscored the significance of World Heritage recognition. In the afternoon, all applicants presented their outputs, incorporating expert feedback and outlining the next steps for their sites.

We are deeply grateful for the chance to learn, share, and collaborate with regional and international partners in the ongoing effort to preserve and celebrate our natural and cultural heritage.
