Wear something conducive for swimming activity. Sando, shorts and slippers will do. Inside the cave there’s this body of water where you’ll be swimming. They called it whirlpool bath. Take note, the water is soooooo cold. It depends on how much you want to stay in your caving and whirlpool bath adventure, but you can continue swimming at the Tinipak River.

Calinawan cave is a cave found in Brgy. Tandang, Kutyo, Tanay Rizal - it is named after the historical event where Filipino settled and agreed on their disputes between Spanish Revolutionaries, the agreement promises "linaw" a Filipino word for clarity (the bisayan word "kalinawan" means "peace" suits very well too). From what I have seen, the part that was opened for spelunking is just a small part - and yes it is, according to our guide the cave is composed of seven levels and only two were open as the others are not yet explored. The cave was privately managed until last year (2012)when they collaborated with DOT.

A must-try Restaurants at Tanay Rizal:

Kainan sa tabing lawa:

The restaurant is situated beside the lake. I went there for the view of the lake but found the food much much better that what I anticipated.

The lake view is more of waterlilies and the towering landscape in the background.

The food on the other hand caught me by surprise. The buko chopsuey was excellent. The vegetables were cooked just right so it has the crunchy texture I wanted. What sets it apart was the added coconut which gives the dish a hint of sweetness.

The fried chicken on the other hand was comparable to several I have tried before but it has this moist and flavorful flesh and crispy skin that never fails amaze me. I Think I could finish one in a sitting.

Finally the shrimp gambas were spicy and cooked just right although I recommend to finish them first. Seems like if left for a while the shrimp becomes overcooked.

All in all it was a great experience and maybe next time I'd bring my family along as there are still more to try on the menu.

How to get here - Tanay Rizal Bakasyunan

There are vans and jeepneys plying from Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong, or in Sta. Lucia in Cainta, also in Antipolo that go through Tanay. Travel time is around 45 minutes and an hour (from Shaw Blvd.). For those with private vehicles, the most convenient way is get a road map of Rizal beforehand. To go through the waterfalls of Tanay and other tourist areas, you may visit the Tanay Tourism Office (or call 7361059) for information and assistance. Tanay Transportation Group (0998.9881590/0917.4758790) has vans, tricycles or jeepneys located at the public market, that are available for rent to take you to your choice of destination and back.

From Ortigas Center
You can ride a bus/mrt going to Shaw then take item 3/4 or ride a bus going to Taytay (G-Liner) from Robinson’s Galleria, alight at Cainta Junction (Big R as landmark) then ride a jeepney going to Tanay (P40-45 fare).
From Shaw blvd. (Starrmall)
In Shaw Blvd there is a RRCG bus going to Tanay (depends on the schedule).
