CLIMBER ADVISORY: We urge everyone to avoid hiking Mt. Batulao.

Last 2015 we informed everyone that multiple registration fees are being collected to the extent that even a local health center was collecting fees from hikers who are just passing by the main road. Last year, the leaders of Mt. Batulao implemented "Forced Guideship". Even though the trail is well established and you are familiar with it, you can no longer hike the mountain without paying the mandatory guide and higher registration fees.

Back trail: 160
Traverse trail: 200
Guide fee: 500

According to the locals, the collected fees will be used for the search and rescue of hikers in the event of an accident. There is nothing wrong with that. We understand that sometimes fees are needed to be collected. However, this kind of culture of collecting more money from hikers violates our right to travel.

If you decide to hike Mt. Batulao, we respect your decision. But as responsible mountaineers, we must not tolerate the practice of treating us like "Cash Cows" and "Walking ATMs".

We, mountaineers love freedom. We should protect this freedom by not tolerating practices like this.
