| St. Philomene Church of Alcala ⛪️

In today’s Gospel, John 20:19-31, we encounter the risen Christ appearing to His disciples, bringing peace into their midst and breathing the Holy Spirit upon them. This passage is a profound reminder of the transformative power of faith and the importance of believing even when we have not seen. Thomas’s journey from doubt to conviction illustrates the struggles many of us face in our spiritual lives, yet also reveals the depth of Christ’s mercy and understanding.

As we reflect on this passage, let us consider our own moments of doubt and how they can serve as opportunities for growth in faith. May we be open to the presence of Christ in our lives, finding peace and courage in His words, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

We pray:
Gracious Lord, in moments of uncertainty and doubt, grant us the strength to trust in Your presence and promises. Help us to embrace the gift of faith, even when our understanding is limited. Fill our hearts with peace and guide us in spreading Your message of love and hope to others. Amen.

The Provincial Government of Cagayan, under the dynamic leadership of Governor Hon. Manuel Mamba, in collaboration with the Cagayan Tourism Office (CTO) headed by Provincial Tourism Officer EnP. Jenifer Junio-Baquiran, successfully hosted the PHILTOA x Cagayan Familiarization Tour—a multi-day cultural and adventure-driven experience designed to showcase some of the province’s most iconic and treasured destinations.

The tour officially kicked off on April 22 in Callao, where participants explored the majestic Callao Cave and enjoyed a serene river cruise along the Pinacanauan River. As the sun began to set, guests were treated to a relaxed riverside picnic, culminating in the breathtaking sight of thousands of bats emerging from the cave at dusk—a natural wonder that left everyone in awe.

The second day shifted to a more spiritual and historical journey with a pilgrimage tour of Cagayan’s most significant religious landmarks. Participants visited St. Hyacinth Church (Ermita de San Jacinto), St. Peter Metropolitan Cathedral, the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat, St. Philomene Parish Church in Alcala—known as the widest church in the province—and St. Dominic Parish Church in Lal-lo. At each stop, the group was warmly welcomed with local refreshments and delicacies, a heartfelt reflection of the province’s rich hospitality and culinary culture.

The day continued with a cruise along the mighty Cagayan River, courtesy of LGU Lal-lo, featuring a scenic stop at the iconic Magapit Suspension Bridge. As evening fell, participants gathered at Lal-lo Park for a festive outdoor dinner, highlighted by a delightful dancing fountain show—an enchanting close to a culturally immersive day.

The final leg of the tour brought the group to the stunning Palaui Island in Santa Ana, where participants hiked to the iconic Cape Engaño Lighthouse, offering sweeping views of turquoise waters and dramatic coastlines—an emblem of Cagayan’s natural beauty and ecological pride. The island experience was made even more memorable with traditional boodle fight-style meals, where breakfast and lunch were served on banana bark—a meaningful nod to local customs and a true showcase of Cagayano warmth.

Before wrapping up the tour, participants made a brief stop at the Cagayan Provincial Capitol in Capitol Hills, where they were welcomed for a quick tour and a meaningful conversation with Provincial Administrator Atty. Charo Mamba-Villaflor. On the final day, just before flying back to Manila, guests were treated to a taste of pansit batil patong, a beloved culinary staple of Tuguegarao City—the perfect way to cap off the Cagayan experience.

The Cagayan Tourism Office extends its heartfelt gratitude to the City and Municipal Local Government Units of Tuguegarao, Piat, Alcala, Lal-lo, and Santa Ana, whose dedicated tourism offices played a vital role in the tour’s success. We also thank the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Amulung for their usual support. The seamless coordination, shared commitment, and spirit of unity among all stakeholders received high praise from PHILTOA participants—clear proof that Cagayan Tourism is strong, united, and ready to welcome the world.

The PHILTOA x Cagayan B2B Session marks a pivotal step in strengthening the province’s tourism industry and positioning Cagayan as a must-visit destination in Northern Luzon. With continued collaboration between government agencies and private stakeholders, the future of Cagayan tourism looks brighter than ever.

Cagayano Indigenous Terminology for Celestial Bodies Across the Heavens

This month is Global Astronomy Month. In this segment of , we highlight the various terms for celestial objects once used by pre-conquest Cagayanos as tools for navigation, timekeeping, and spirituality. These practices were already in place long before the arrival of the Spaniards and the Scientific Revolution.

By decolonizing these terms, we reclaim and revitalize our indigenous knowledge of astronomy, connecting it to the broader heritage of the Austronesians. This reminds us that we are, indeed, adde’ na’ sinakkabban na langi’, which means “all that are under the skies.”

Ikaw? Anong kwentong langit mo? Share it with us!

Note: The compiled information is based on historical, linguistic, and ethnographic literature, as well as personal interviews with members of various ethnolinguistic groups in Cagayan. These terms were gathered through consultations with indigenous language speakers and verified using existing dictionaries. Cognate variations may appear depending on the regional dialect. Blank or missing entries indicate ongoing interviews and research.

| April 20, 2025

This Easter Sunday, we are reminded of the profound significance of the resurrection, a cornerstone of hope and renewal. Easter is more than a historical event; it is a living promise that light can conquer darkness and life can overcome death. This day invites us to reflect on the transformative power of love and the possibilities of new beginnings. In a world often shadowed by challenges, Easter calls us to embrace resilience and to find strength in faith.

We pray:
Heavenly Father, on this joyous Easter morning, we give thanks for the gift of Your Son, who has risen and brought us the promise of eternal life. May the miracle of Easter fill our hearts with peace and joy. Help us to live in the light of resurrection, sharing love and compassion with all those we meet. Guide us to be instruments of Your peace, spreading hope in a world that longs for healing. Amen.

| April 19, 2025

On this solemn Black Saturday, we pause in reflection and prayer, standing between the sorrow of Good Friday and the joy of Easter Sunday. Today, we find ourselves in a space of waiting and contemplation, remembering the silence of the tomb and the hope that is yet to come. Let us use this time to reflect on our own lives, acknowledging the areas where we seek renewal and transformation.

We pray:

Dear Lord, as we sit in quiet reflection on this Holy Saturday, we pray for the strength to embrace patience and faith. May we find solace in the silence and hold onto the promise of new beginnings. Grant us peace in our hearts and a renewed spirit as we await the joy of Easter morning. Amen.
