Bohol Amends Rabies Ordinance to Modernize Provincial Response
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Recognizing that rabies remains a significant public health threat throughout the Philippines, the Provincial Government of Bohol has officially moved to update and strengthen its decade-old anti-rabies ordinance.
The Provincial Rabies Council, alongside key stakeholders, convened on April 21, 2026, at the SP Session Hall to review and revise Provincial Ordinance No. 2007-012, known as the Bohol Rabies Prevention and Eradication Program.
Presided over by Board Member Mutya Kismit Tirol, the meeting focused on critical revisions, including stricter protocols for animal registration, expanded vaccination initiatives, regulation of animal movement, prohibited acts, and increased penalties.
Board Member Tirol, the author of the proposed changes, stated that all stakeholder recommendations have been consolidated into the measure.
The ordinance successfully passed its first reading, and Tirol expressed optimism for its final approval by May. As the country's first UNESCO Global Geopark, Bohol’s commitment to public health is a core pillar of its strategic governance roadmap.
