AMUN JADID 2025

As we enter the new year of the Islamic Calendar, let's reflect on our deeds and prayers in the past year. Muharram is the first month of the Hijri calendar. It is one of the four sacred months in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW/PBUH) called it "Shahrullah al-Muharram" (the month of Allah). This is the best month for fasting after Ramadan. Islam teaches Muslims that fasting on the 10th day of this month, called Ashura, wipes out the sins of the past year.

Happy Islamic New Year. May this year bring us even closer to Almighty Allah and earn His grace. Have a peaceful, prosperous, and renewed faith, brothers and sisters.

Where nature stays pure and culture lives on.

Did you know?
Madalum means โ€œdeepโ€ in Meranaw. Its name came from a deep part of a river full of fish, discovered by the townโ€™s early settlers. Just 30 km from Marawi, this quiet town offers cool weather, green landscapes, and a deep connection to its roots.

Sometimes, the simplest places leave the deepest impressions.

When hands create from the heart, culture lives on forever.

Meet Ms. Omelcair G. Domangcag-Renayong, a proud Meranaw Lakub maker from Bacayawan, Marantao, Lanao del Sur.

She has mastered the traditional art of creating Lakub, a one-of-a-kind handcrafted bamboo container used by the Meranaw people to store to***co or nganga (betel quid).

Lakub is more than just a container. Itโ€™s a symbol of Meranaw identityโ€”patiently crafted, naturally dyed, and carefully decorated with vibrant geometric patterns like zigzags and banded lines.

For Ms. Omelcair, making Lakub brings joy and pride. Itโ€™s her way of preserving their culture and honoring her heritage. She continues to pass down this sacred craft to her children, making sure that this beautiful tradition lives on.

Let her story remind us that every handmade Lakub carries the soul of Lanao del Sur, its people, its pride, and its enduring beauty.

In every design, there's a story. In every Lakub, there's a legacy.

Lanao del Sur Provincial Tourism Actively Participates in TIEZA Investment Roadshow

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY โ€“ The Lanao del Sur Provincial Tourism Office was an active participant in the recent Tourism Investment Roadshow organized by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

The event, held in partnership with the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. and the Cagayan de Oro Hotel & Restaurant Association, aimed to present lucrative investment opportunities within the region's burgeoning tourism sector.

The roadshow, titled "TIEZA Investment Opportunities for Tourism Enterprises โ€“ Northern Mindanao Region," provided a comprehensive overview of the current tourism landscape and potential areas for growth. Discussions also covered the process for business enterprise registration and the grant of incentives under the CREATE Act, providing a clear pathway for potential investors.

Key figures from TIEZA, including Mr. Mark T. Lapid, Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Francis Randy J. Hortelano, Manager of TEZ Assistance and Monitoring Department, and Ms. Mae Elaine S. Unchuan, Regional Director for Department of Tourism Region 10, delivered messages of support and detailed the tourism situation in the region. Lanao del Sur's participation underscores the province's commitment to exploring and leveraging opportunities that can further enhance its tourism infrastructure and attract investments, ultimately contributing to the economic development and job creation within the province.

A Legacy Woven in Royalty! โœจ

The Landap is more than just traditional wear โ€” it's a proud symbol of Meranaw identity and nobility. Once worn by Sultans, Datus, Baeโ€™s, and the elite, this colorful tubular garment showcases intricate okir and langkit patterns like Lakban and Tobrian, crafted from fine silk and woven with meaning.

Each color holds power:
๐ŸŸก Yellow โ€“ for Sultans and royalty.
๐ŸŸฃ Violet โ€“ for queens and princesses.
๐Ÿ”ด Red โ€“ for warriors.
๐ŸŸข Green โ€“ for spiritual leaders.

You can admire this timeless piece at Tales of Ranaw - Tourism Hub, People's Park, Marawi City or at the Aga Khan Museum, MSU.

Want to take one home? Visit the souvenir shops along Basak Malutlut and bring a piece of Ranaw's heritage with you.

Ino Katawan Ka? The town of Buadiposo-Buntong was officially founded on May 5, 1977. Its name comes from two meaningful roots Buadiposo, meaning โ€œdescendants of Puso,โ€ and Buntong, meaning โ€œbambooโ€ symbols of strength, family, and resilience in Meranaw culture. It proudly traces its heritage to the Sultanate of Ranaw.

After 127 years, the National Government has officially recognized the Battle of Marahui.

We enjoy our freedom today because they had the courage to fight for it yesterday.

From Lanao to Luneta, we remember the bravery of those who came before usโ€”heroes who dreamed of a free and better tomorrow.

This Independence Day, we honor not only the well-known names, but also the brave Meranaw warriors of 1895 who stood against injustice in Marawi.

Their story lives on.
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
