This week brought another group of guests to the Old Capitol Building, where the Provincial Tourism Office and the Museo de Catanduanes offer two ways to discover the Happy Island.

At the Provincial Tourism Office, visitors can explore exhibits featuring Catanduanes’ tourism destinations while accessing essential tourism information to help them plan their journey around the province, from places to visit and experiences to discover to other useful information for their trip.

Just within the same historic building, the Museo de Catanduanes takes visitors on a journey through the province’s history and heritage. Its galleries and collections provide a glimpse into the stories, traditions, people, and events that have shaped Catanduanes through the years.

Together, these spaces offer visitors a meaningful introduction to the Happy Island and learn about where Catanduanes came from, discover where to go, and find more reasons to explore.

The Province of Catanduanes welcomes the arrival of the technical team from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) for the scheduled technical inspection of priority tourism infrastructure projects championed by Governor Patrick Alain T. Azanza.

The TIEZA technical team’s visit follows Governor Azanza’s meeting with TIEZA on September 3, 2026, where he advanced the Province’s proposed tourism infrastructure projects and sought national government support for their development.

The team is scheduled to conduct site inspections tomorrow, September 18, in the municipalities of Caramoran and Pandan to assess the proposed projects, their respective sites, and the technical requirements necessary for their potential implementation.

In Caramoran, the team will inspect the proposed ₱20-million Floating Dock Facility, which is envisioned to provide safer, more stable, and organized maritime access for tourism activities and improve the embarkation and disembarkation of tourists and boats.

In Pandan, the team will inspect the proposed ₱30-million Tourist Activity Center, envisioned as a strategic visitor facility that will provide tourism information and assistance, visitor amenities, spaces for local products and cultural showcases, and other services supporting tourism in northern Catanduanes.

The scheduled technical inspection represents a significant step in advancing these proposed projects, allowing TIEZA to assess the sites and determine the technical considerations relevant to their potential development and national government support.

Spearheading these initiatives, Governor Patrick Alain T. Azanza continues to pursue investments in tourism infrastructure that can improve visitor access and services, strengthen local tourism enterprises, and create opportunities for communities across Catanduanes.

The Provincial Government of Catanduanes, through the Provincial Tourism Office, looks forward to working closely with TIEZA, the Department of Tourism, and the concerned municipal governments as these proposed projects move forward.

For the expats who have found their way to Catanduanes, the answer is found not only in the island’s beautiful landscapes, but in the everyday experiences that make life here meaningful—the warmth of its people, the beauty of its surroundings, the slower pace of island life, and the sense of belonging that grows with time.

For this year’s 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 celebration, we sat down with some of the expats who now call the Happy Island home and asked them about their experiences living in Catanduanes.

Their stories may be different, but they share a common thread: Catanduanes has become more than a place they chose to stay. It has become a place they feel they belong.

Because sometimes, you don't have to be born in a place for it to become home. For them, Catanduanes is home.

And that is one more reason to fall in love with the Happy Island.

September 15, 2026 | Virac, Catanduanes — Catanduanes welcomes a new addition to its growing tourism and hospitality landscape with the opening of The Island Red Hotel, located within the Catanduanes State University (CatSU) Campus in Virac.

The new establishment adds accommodation, dining, and function facilities to the province’s tourism infrastructure, providing additional options for tourists, visitors, residents, students, and other guests looking for convenient spaces to stay, dine, meet, and gather while in Catanduanes.

The Island Red Hotel offers guest rooms complemented by a café and restaurant, meeting rooms, and a function hall suited for various gatherings and activities. Its strategic location in the center of Virac further positions the establishment as an accessible addition to the local hospitality sector.

As Catanduanes continues to welcome more visitors and expand its tourism offerings, the entry of new tourism-related establishments strengthens the province’s capacity to accommodate the diverse needs of its growing visitor market.

September 15, 2026 | ARDCI Hotel, Virac, Catanduanes — Tourism stakeholders, industry players, and tourism students gathered in celebration of 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 – 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮, bringing together different sectors of the local tourism community for a day of learning, exchange, and fellowship.

Held as part of the global observation of World Tourism Month, the gathering carried the theme “𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚, 𝑫𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏,” providing an opportunity for participants to reflect on Catanduanes’ tourism journey, its current landscape, and the opportunities that lie ahead for the province.

A key part of the program was the tourism talk delivered by Ms. Carmel Bonifacio-Garcia, Provincial Tourism Officer, titled “𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝.” The presentation provided an overview of the province’s tourism situation, highlighting recent developments, emerging opportunities, and the importance of continued collaboration among the various players who contribute to the growth and development of Catanduanes as a destination.

The program also featured exhibits and showcases from participating exhibitors, cultural performances, and discussions on business ethics and community engagement. More than a learning session, the gathering created an avenue for tourism stakeholders to connect, strengthen relationships, share experiences, and build a deeper sense of collective responsibility for the future of tourism in the province.

The activity also highlighted the continued partnership between the Provincial Tourism Office and Ms. Fatima Kozma of Virac Special Publications, whose steadfast support and collaboration have contributed to championing tourism and strengthening connections within Catanduanes’ tourism community. Through initiatives that bring tourism stakeholders together, this partnership continues to provide meaningful avenues for dialogue, learning, and collaboration across the sector.

As Catanduanes continues to shape its story as the Happy Island, gatherings such as this provide an important space for the tourism community to look at where the province is today, recognize the work that has brought it this far, and collectively envision where it can go next.
