The Local Government Unit of Virac warmly welcomes the guests and participants of the Regional Management Committee (MANCOM) Meeting of the Department of Education Regional Office V, bringing together regional officials and education leaders from across the Bicol Region.

The delegates were warmly received at Midtown Inn Beach Resort, where they gathered for lunch and an opportunity to experience the warm hospitality and welcoming atmosphere of Virac. The occasion was graced by the presence of Municipal Mayor Hon. Atty. Sinforoso M. Sarmiento Jr. and Provincial Governor Hon. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, who joined in extending a heartfelt welcome to the visiting officials and participants.

As the gateway and capital town of Catanduanes, Virac takes pride in welcoming visitors not only through its scenic coastal surroundings and tourism destinations, but also through the warm hospitality, culture, local flavors, and genuine friendliness of its people.

As part of their two-day cycling journey across the Happy Island of Catanduanes, the Municipality of Virac served as one of the key destinations on the second day of the adventure. The cyclists made a stop at the iconic Happy Island Marker before proceeding to the scenic Tampad Beach, where they experienced the coastal charm that Virac has to offer.

As a gesture of appreciation and warm Virac hospitality, the Municipality shared tokens of appreciation to the organizers and participants in recognition of their invaluable contribution to promoting sustainable tourism and encouraging more travelers to discover the beauty of Catanduanes through cycling.

The Municipality of Virac welcomed the participants and organizers of the Isla Bisikleta: Happy Island Bikepacking Adventure, a flagship activity under the Philippine Cyclotourism Program spearheaded by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Province of Catanduanes through the Provincial Tourism Office. This initiative aims to promote Catanduanes as a premier cycling destination while showcasing the province's landscapes, vibrant communities and unique local experiences through sustainable and immersive bicycle tourism.

As part of their two-day cycling journey across the Happy Island of Catanduanes, the Municipality of Virac served as one of the key destinations on the second day of the adventure. The Local Government Unit of Virac extends its sincerest gratitude to Department of Tourism Regional Office V Regional Director Herbie B. Aguas, Mr. Cesar R. Villanueva, Acting Head of the Domestic Promotions Department of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines and Director of the Philippine Cyclotourism Program, and Provincial Tourism Officer Ms. Carmel B. Garcia for including the Municipality of Virac in this cyclotourism initiative.

We also extend our gratitude to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Virac for providing emergency preparedness and medical assistance, ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants and to the Traffic Management Personnel for their invaluable support in facilitating the safe and orderly movement of cyclists along the designated routes.

𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

The Municipal Tourism Council of Virac convened its Council Meeting, bringing together council members, representatives from government agencies, tourism stakeholders, and partner institutions to discuss key policies, programs, and strategic initiatives that will further advance the municipality's tourism industry.

One of the major highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the Local Tourism Development Plan (LTDP) 2026–2029, which serves as the municipality's roadmap for sustainable tourism development over the next four years. The plan outlines priority programs, projects, and activities focused on destination development, tourism product enhancement, heritage and cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, tourism investment promotion, visitor safety and assistance, capacity-building, marketing and promotions, and strengthened partnerships among stakeholders.

The Council also reviewed the Second Quarter Accomplishment Report of the Municipal Tourism Office, highlighting the successful implementation of various tourism programs and initiatives, including destination assessments and development activities, tourism promotion campaigns, stakeholder consultations, visitor assistance services, participation in tourism-related events, and collaborative efforts with local communities and partner agencies to enhance the municipality's tourism sector.

To strengthen coordination and ensure the effective implementation of tourism plans and programs, the Council approved the creation of the Municipal Tourism Technical Working Group (TWG). The TWG will serve as the Council's technical support body, providing assistance in policy formulation, project planning, monitoring and evaluation, data management, and the implementation of tourism-related initiatives in accordance with the Local Tourism Development Plan.

The meeting also provided an avenue to discuss *other relevant tourism concerns, policy updates, recommendations, and collaborative initiatives that require the collective action of the Council and its stakeholders. Through open dialogue and shared commitment, the Council reaffirmed its dedication to promoting sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and community-based tourism while ensuring that tourism development continues to contribute to the municipality's economic growth, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation.

The Municipal Tourism Council remains steadfast in its commitment in realizing the vision of making Virac a more competitive, sustainable, and visitor-friendly tourism destination.

LGU Virac officially kicks off the celebration of Nutrition Month today, July 1, 2026, through a parade participated in by LGU employees, Barangay Health Workers, and students from various schools, reflecting the community’s shared support for promoting health and nutrition awareness.

The activity was graced by the presence of the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Atty. Sinforoso M. Sarmiento Jr., and Hon. Angelo Piolo Laynes, and spearheaded through the efforts of the Municipal Health Office and Nutrition Office headed by Dr. Elva Joson, Municipal Health Officer, and Ms. Jocelyn Quinones, Head of the Nutrition Office.

Nutrition Month serves as an important reminder that proper nutrition is essential in achieving healthier lives and stronger communities. As LGU Virac continues its commitment to promoting health and wellness, the municipality remains dedicated to supporting programs and initiatives that encourage healthy practices and raise awareness on the value of proper nutrition. Through collective action and active community participation, we move forward in building a healthier and better future for every Viraceño.

The Municipal Tourism Office of Virac recently conducted a site visit to Alangan Falls in Barangay Dugui Too, one of Virac's emerging eco-tourism destinations that continues to gain positive recognition from both locals and visitors for its refreshing waters and scenic natural surroundings.

As part of the visit, the Tourism Office held a dialogue with Punong Barangay Hon. Demcint G. Beo and SK Chairman Michael Marquez to discuss the current status of the destination, its tourism potential, and the barangay's ongoing efforts in managing and maintaining the site.

The discussion also explored strategies to responsibly promote Alangan Falls while identifying opportunities to enhance visitor services, improve basic facilities, and ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for everyone.

The Municipal Tourism Officer recently conducted a site visit to Hinagasan Falls in Barangay Sogod Tibgao Bliss to assess the current condition of one of Virac's most treasured natural attractions.

As part of the visit, the Tourism Office also held a productive dialogue with the Barangay Officials of Sogod Tibgao Bliss to gather updates on the community's efforts in maintaining, protecting, and monitoring the area. The discussion highlighted the barangay's ongoing initiatives to preserve the natural beauty of Hinagasan Falls while ensuring its sustainability and readiness for future visitors.

Known for its refreshing cascades and tranquil surroundings, Hinagasan Falls has long been one of Virac's favorite destinations for nature lovers and adventure seekers. This site assessment reflects the Municipality's continued commitment to evaluating and supporting the sustainable development of its tourism destinations.

The Municipal Tourism Office of Virac conducted a consultation dialogue with the Barangay Officials of Magnesia del Sur, headed by Punong Barangay Hon. Gerrybel Bautista to discuss the recognition and development of Magnesia del Sur as one of Virac's emerging surfing destinations.

As part of the dialogue, it was also discussed the barangay's marine sanctuary and sought to clarify the existing policies governing tourism activities within the area. In particular, the discussion focused on whether surfing may be permitted, considering that the current ordinance does not specifically mention or provide provisions regarding surfing activities. The consultation provided an opportunity to exchange insights and ensure that future tourism initiatives remain aligned with environmental protection and existing regulations.

The Municipal Tourism Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Barangay Officials of Magnesia del Sur for their warm welcome, openness, and active participation in this productive dialogue. Through collaboration and shared commitment, we continue to work toward promoting responsible tourism while safeguarding the municipality's valuable coastal and marine resources.

Last June 25, 2026, the Local Government Unit of Virac, through its various offices and personnel, actively participated in the celebration of Linggo ng Kalikasan through a Coastal Clean-Up Activity, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable development.

The activity served as a meaningful reminder that caring for our environment is a shared responsibility. By coming together to clean our coastline and promote environmental awareness, LGU Virac continues to advocate for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient municipality.

As a municipality blessed with beautiful beaches and rich marine biodiversity, maintaining clean coastlines is essential not only for environmental conservation but also for promoting sustainable tourism and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors.

The four-day Barangay Tanod sa Turismo Training Program culminated today with a meaningful and interactive Stakeholders' Dialogue, providing participants with the opportunity to directly engage with representatives from key government agencies and offices involved in tourism development, public safety, environmental management, disaster preparedness, and local governance.

The dialogue served as a platform for Barangay Tanods to raise questions, share experiences, and seek guidance on various concerns related to tourism safety, visitor assistance, law enforcement, environmental protection, emergency response, and community participation in tourism development. Representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office–Solid Waste Management Office (MENRO-SWMO), and the Municipal Tourism Office provided valuable insights and practical recommendations to help strengthen the role of Barangay Tanods as frontline partners in creating safe, clean, resilient, and tourist-friendly communities.

The open forum highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in addressing tourism-related concerns and ensuring that visitors experience the warmth, safety, and hospitality that Virac is known for.

As the training concludes, the knowledge, skills, and partnerships developed throughout the four-day program are expected to empower Barangay Tanods to become more effective tourism advocates, community protectors, and ambassadors of hospitality in their respective barangays.

The Local Government Unit of Virac extends its sincere appreciation to the Department of Tourism Region V, all partner agencies, resource speakers, and participating Barangay Tanods for their commitment and active participation in making this training program a success.
