Gracing the activity was Municipal Mayor Atty. Sinforoso M. Sarmiento Jr., alongside representatives from the Municipal Health Office and Tourism Office demonstrating strong local government support in strengthening food safety standards within the municipality.
The Local Government Unit of Virac extends its sincere gratitude to the Provincial Director of DOST Catanduanes, Engr. Marie Grace T. Molina, for spearheading this meaningful initiative, and to the Department of Science and Technology โ Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) for providing the Food Safety Grading System. This system serves as a vital tool in assessing, guiding, and elevating the compliance of food establishments with national food safety standards ensuring that quality and safety are consistently met and sustained.
This initiative is crucial in safeguarding public health by ensuring that local food establishments uphold high standards of cleanliness and safety reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses and protecting both residents and visitors.
As Virac continues to position itself as the gastronomy hub of Catanduanes, maintaining safe and high-quality food practices strengthens tourist confidence and enhances the overall dining experience. More importantly, it reinforces Viracโs commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism, where the well-being of both locals and tourists remains a top priority.
Through programs like this, Virac moves forward in building a safer, smarter, and more competitive culinary destination.
