A Message to the People and Youth of Abbottabad
Abbottabad is not just a city. It is our identity, our childhood, and the place where many of us opened our eyes and learned the meaning of life. We grew up on its calm streets, breathing its clean air, and finding peace in its gentle weather.
Abbottabad was once known across the country for its pleasant climate, balanced four seasons, fresh air, and beautiful surroundings. Even during June and July, the temperature rarely crossed 26 degrees. The mountains of Sarban, Shimla, and Galliyat were the pride of this city. From Shimla, the entire city looked like a blessing at our feet. People from other cities visited Abbottabad in summer, winter, and autumn, calling it a gift of nature.
Over the last 10 years, we have witnessed a painful change. The weather has become unpredictable. Snow that once stayed for long periods now melts within hours. Even winters no longer feel complete. Along with climate changes, the city is facing serious challenges such as water shortages, damaged roads, unplanned infrastructure, increasing traffic, poor beautification, and growing garbage problems.
We must accept that we all share responsibility for this decline. Our neglect, silence, and lack of care have contributed to the loss of Abbottabad’s beauty. However, this is not the end. We still have a chance to restore what we have lost.
This message is especially for the youth of Abbottabad. You are the strength and future of this city. Plant trees, protect the environment, and take responsibility for cleanliness and order. Raise your voice in a positive and constructive way. Engage with the Cantonment Board, the Mayor, Members of the National Assembly, and Members of the Provincial Assembly to demand serious and long-term actions for the city.
Abbottabad has given us peace, shelter, and identity. Now it is our duty to give back. If we stand together, we can restore its weather, its beauty, and its soul.
Let us promise today that we will not remain silent observers, but active guardians of Abbottabad.
