Gilgit’s role in the independence movement
Before 1947, Gilgit was part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, but the British had administrative control over the Gilgit Agency.
The people of Gilgit and surrounding areas had strong political and social connections with the Muslim-majority areas that eventually became Pakistan.
On 1 November 1947, local forces and residents in Gilgit revolted against the Dogra administration and took control of Gilgit.
Major William Brown, the British commander of the Gilgit Scouts, played a controversial but important role in the events that led to the overthrow of the Dogra governor.
The local administration declared accession to Pakistan, and the Pakistani flag was raised in Gilgit.
Gilgit therefore became one of the earliest places in the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir to come under Pakistani control after independence.

🚨 تازہ اپڈیٹ | شاہراہِ بلتستان

شدید سیلابی ریلے کے باعث شاہراہِ بلتستان پر حراموش کے مقام پر زیرِ تعمیر فولادی پل بھی بہہ گیا۔

ذرائع کے مطابق شاہراہ کی بحالی کا کام جاری ہے، تاہم ٹریفک کی بحالی میں مزید دو دن لگ سکتے ہیں۔

تمام مسافروں اور سیاحوں سے گزارش ہے کہ غیر ضروری سفر سے گریز کریں اور روانگی سے قبل تازہ ترین ٹریفک اپڈیٹس ضرور حاصل کریں۔
