Telegraph Hut, Burzil Pass. Photograph taken in 1915, by R. conquest of Rawalpindi.

The Burzil Pass is a mountain pass now in northern Pakistan, and is part of the historic caravan route between the cities of Srinagar and Gilgit. It is the oldest-known route connecting Gilgit with Skardu and Srinagar through the Deosai Plateau.

Ancient travellers are believed to have extensively crossed the pass by horse. At the beginning of the 20th century, a hut was built on the crest of the pass, where couriers delivered mail and messages from India to China.

First-Ever Group of Pakistani Females Cross Haramosh La!

On Friday (June 16), a groundbreaking achievement was made as a group of three Pakistani females successfully crossed the challenging Haramosh La pass from Arundu to Kutwal. Dr. Sana Jamil, Ammara Sharif, and Sohniya Baber, accompanied by their teammates Abduhu and Dr. Raheel, became the first-ever Pakistani female group to accomplish this feat. Haramosh La is widely regarded as one of the most technical, difficult, and perilous passes in Pakistan.

The trek entails navigating a heavily fissured glacier on the upper Chugolangma, with the constant risk of avalanches. The ascent on the west side is steep, often requiring the use of ropes for approximately 600 to 700 meters. Due to its demanding nature, this trek is only suitable for experienced trekkers with technical mountaineering skills.

Meanwhile, renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sajid Sadpara made an announcement on the same day. Sajid, the son of the legendary mountaineer Ali Sadpara, revealed his plan to climb Nanga Parbat Mountain without the aid of supplementary oxygen or Sherpas. Having already conquered six of the world's highest peaks without artificial oxygen, including Mount Everest in May 2023, Sajid aims to ascend all 14 eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen. His remarkable achievements include scaling K2, Gasherbrum-I, Gasherbrum-II in Pakistan, and Manaslu in Nepal without the assistance of supplemental oxygen or Sherpas.

These accomplishments by Pakistani adventurers demonstrate their determination, skill, and passion for pushing the boundaries of human potential in the realm of mountaineering and exploration.
