Jamalabad Link Road Project Nears Completion, Enhancing Connectivity in Upper Hunza

Jamalabaf Gojal, Hunza, Construction work on the Jamalabad Link Road is progressing at a steady pace, bringing the project closer to completion and significantly improving road connectivity for residents of Jamalabad, Upper Hunza.

The road project will provide a direct link between the village and the Karakoram Highway (KKH), making travel more efficient and strengthening access to one of Pakistan’s most important transportation routes.

In addition to the road itself, construction includes protective side retaining walls and a roadside drainage (water channel) system designed to improve safety, protect the roadway from erosion, and ensure proper water management during rainfall and snowmelt. These features are expected to enhance the durability and long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.

Residents have welcomed the ongoing work, describing it as a major step toward improving transportation, reducing travel time and providing easier access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets and other public services.

The improved road is also expected to stimulate the local economy by facilitating the movement of agricultural products, supporting local businesses and making the village more accessible to domestic and international tourists exploring the scenic Gojal Valley.

Community members have expressed optimism that the remaining work will be completed on schedule, allowing the road to benefit residents and visitors at the earliest opportunity.

The Jamalabad Link Road is widely regarded as an important infrastructure project that will strengthen regional connectivity and contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of Upper Hunza.

Rising Water Levels Damage Jamalabad Village Water Channel at Avgarch River Crossing

Jamalabad Gojal Upper Hunza: The main water channel supplying Jamalabad Village has been damaged at its connection point with the Avgarch River after a significant increase in the river’s water level.

According to local residents the powerful flow washed away part of the channel, disrupting the water supply to the village and surrounding agricultural fields. The damage has caused concern among farmers and residents who rely on the channel for irrigation and daily water needs.

Community members have appealed to the relevant authorities to carry out urgent repair work and strengthen the vulnerable section to prevent further damage, especially as water levels continue to rise.

The Jamalabad water channel is an essential lifeline for the village, supporting local agriculture and providing a dependable source of water for the community. An assessment of the damage is expected before restoration work begins.
