A Glimpse of Our Recent Trek to Yazghil Valley, Shimshal—a rewarding journey through one of the most accessible yet spectacular trekking valleys of Shimshal.
Yazghil is considered one of the relatively easier trekking routes in Shimshal compared with some of the more demanding trails in the region. However, every mountain route has its own terrain, challenges, and character. The pace and difficulty can vary depending on weather, glacier conditions, and the fitness and experience of trekkers.
The journey begins from Shimshal Valley, passing through dry and rugged terrain towards Yazben. From there, the trail gradually ascends towards the Yazghil Glacier moraine, where the landscape dramatically changes. Here, trekkers are rewarded with close-up views of Yazghil Sar, Yazghil Pasture, and the beautiful Yazghil Glacier.
Crossing the glacier is one of the highlights of the journey and can take around two hours, depending on conditions. Beyond the glacier, the trail continues towards Kishlagh, our first camping area, surrounded by impressive mountain scenery.
The following day takes us higher towards Yazghil Pasture, with sections of steeper ascent. From the pasture, the panorama opens up towards some of the remarkable peaks of the Shimshal region, including Yazghil Dome 7,324m, Kunyang Chish I, 7,852m, the second highest peak of Hispar Mistagh after Distaghil Sar 7885m, Kunyang Chish II, 7108m, and prominent peak to its left is Pumari Chhish main 7,492m,as well as Shimshal White Horn 6400m and numerous surrounding above 5000-meter peaks. The route also offers magnificent views towards the Khudopin and Verjerab glaciers and their surrounding mountains.
From Yazghil Pasture, those looking for a higher adventure can continue towards the Yazghil Sar Base Camp or higher viewpoints, where the reward is an elevated perspective over Yazghil Pasture and its glacier, together with closer views of the surrounding peaks, including the Boesam and Maidur areas.
Yazghil is a beautiful combination of green alpine pastures, rugged trails, white glaciers, high mountains and glacier walking—an ideal adventure for those looking to experience the remote beauty of the Karakoram.
