Avalanche on K2 Leaves Local Skardu Porter Missing; Foreign Climber Sustains Minor Abrasions

Skardu, 18 July 2025 : A local porter from Skardu remains missing after an avalanche struck a four‑member climbing party on K2 at approximately 14:30 on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Shigar has confirmed.

The slab of ice and snow released about 500 metres above Camp 1, en route from Base Camp, hitting the team as they made routine preparations for their upward push. A foreign mountaineer in the party escaped with only minor abrasions and was swiftly evacuated to Camp 1 for medical attention. A Nepali Sherpa and a high‑altitude porter also emerged unscathed, descending on foot to Advanced Base Camp to raise the alarm.

46-year-old Klara Kolouchova A climber from the Czech Republic has died during the expedition of the Nanga Parbat after falling from the mountain between Camp 1 and 2, according to Diamer officials.
Klara Kolouchova was part of a seven-member expedition team, including her husband, that had arrived in Pakistan on June 15 and reached base camp two days later.
According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the incident occurred around 4am local time. but her body remains at the fall site.
Rescue officials and high-altitude porters have been dispatched to the area, though recovery efforts are complicated by the mountain's extreme terrain.
