*BREAKING: Samina Baig Evacuated from K2 Base Camp after Falling Ill*
Islamabad, June 7, 2024 - Renowned mountaineer Samina Baig, who was attempting to summit K2, was successfully evacuated from the base camp to CMH Hospital in Skardu after falling ill during her acclimatization process.
According to sources, Baig was transported on horseback for 48 hours, battling harsh weather conditions and a deteriorating health condition, before reaching Askoli, the last village in the Skardu Shiger Valley. From there, she was transferred to a jeep and taken to Skardu by road.
The Pakistan Army played a crucial role in the evacuation, with army personnel from FCNA arranging an airlift from the nearby village of Dasu. A team of army and AKUH medical professionals are currently assessing Baig's condition at CMH Hospital, with an army air ambulance on standby in Rawalpindi, ready to transport her to Islamabad if necessary.
The evacuation effort was a collaborative effort, with the GB government and community leadership also providing support. Baig's condition is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
