Last month, I had the pleasure of guiding an amazing group from Taiwan through the ancient Makli Necropolis. Every corner of this UNESCO site carries a story, and it was an honor to share Pakistan’s cultural heritage with them.

Beach cleaning is a great initiative and I highly appreciate the amazing efforts of Hammad Foundation and its volunteers. They are doing remarkable work for our coastline.

But people must understand that cleaning the shore is not the real solution to the problem.

The real issue is that untreated sewage and solid waste are continuously entering the sea through drains and pipelines.
As long as garbage and sewage keep flowing into the ocean, the waves will keep pushing it back to the beach again and again.

We also need to improve our own habits regarding single-use plastics. Whatever garbage we produce on land eventually ends up in our ocean.

And I strongly believe that if Hammad Foundation can also arrange an awareness campaign demanding the government to stop draining untreated sewage and hazardous chemical waste into our sea, it will create a powerful and much-needed impact.

If we truly want a clean and healthy coastline, we must stop untreated waste from entering the sea and reduce our plastic footprint.
Only then will beach cleaning efforts create a long-lasting and meaningful difference.

On World Fisheries Day, here is my message:

Our oceans are not just a resource — they are a blessing, a livelihood, and a future for millions of people.
From Sindh to Balochistan, countless fishermen brave the sea every day to bring fresh and healthy food to our homes. Their hard work deserves our respect and support.

Today, we must commit to:

✔️ Promoting sustainable and responsible fishing
✔️ Reducing plastic pollution in our oceans
✔️ Protecting our corals and mangroves, the natural shield of our coastline
✔️ Supporting the rights, safety, and well-being of fishing communities

Let’s work together to protect our oceans
so that future generations can benefit from this precious gift.

A healthy ocean means a healthy future for Pakistan.
