Prahladpuri Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Multan in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is named after Prahlada and is dedicated to the god Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
The temple is also historically significant as the site where the festival of Holika Dahan commenced.
According to mythology, it’s believed that the Narsimha form of Vishnu, which is part-lion and part-human, came to kill Hiranyakashipu, who was the asura (demon) king of Multan. The iconography of Narsimha depicts him with a torso of a human, and face and claws of a lion, with Hiranyakashipu being disembowelled and killed by him in his lap. Narsimha is also known as the protector of the world. The temple is said to date back thousands of years, possibly to the Vedic period.
It was in 1992, in retaliation to the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the Prahladpuri temple was destroyed by a mob.
In March 2025 ,Pakistan government have given the task to renovate and rebuild Prahladpuri temple to Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).
