A new update from Broad Peak, where ten climbers were swept away by an avalanche on the morning of Thursday, July 30, while they were between Camp 2 and Camp 3, at approximately 6,600 meters above sea level.
According to Mingma G, search teams have located nine of the ten members of the group. Only Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi, a high-altitude guide originally from Hunza, remains to be identified.
In the message, posted on social media and addressed primarily to those spreading unconfirmed news, Mingma G urges those who are spreading unconfirmed reports not to subject the families of the climbers involved to further suffering through speculation or personal reconstructions. He also clarifies that teams are working to recover the bodies and that both the Nepalese and Pakistani governments are directly following the operations.
The situation described is now that of a recovery operation, rather than a search for possible survivors.
An update from Nepalese sources also reports that the remains of three climbers have already been transferred by helicopter to Skardu: those of Omani climber Nadhira Al Harthy, Nepalese climber Pur Bahadur Gurung, and as yet unidentified remains, which the newspaper believes could belong to American climber Mallory Geis. The same source claims that drone images have identified Nirmal Purja, Kili Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, and Wang Zhong on the slope facing the Concordia Glacier, below Camp 1. G
