Congratulations to Ismaili mountaineer Samina Baig for conquering K2 - the second highest mountain in the world, on 22 July 2022. Samina is the first Pakistani woman and the first Pakistani female mountaineer to summit the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8,849m) and the second highest, K2 (8,611m).

Hailing from Shimshal, a remote village of Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, she dreamt of life amongst the mountains. She started her mountaineering career at the age of 15. She was the first person to have scaled the 6,000-metre Chaskin Sar peak, which was later named after her. In February 2018, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) also named Samina Baig Pakistan's National Goodwill Ambassador.

Over 100 mountaineers from the US, Canada, the UK, Russia, China, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Andorra, Poland, South Africa, Japan, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Nepal and Malaysia reached the summit of K2 alongside Samina on Friday.
