The country of Nigeria continues its foray into the aviation industry. Already 5 Nigerian states have government-backed airlines in development or already operational. Now the state of Kano has announced that it also will be backing the development of its own airline.
Details at this point are still scarce but Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has announced that the proposed Kano Airline will begin operations in one year's time. He has said that his administration is committed to this project and will provide whatever support required. He also stated that the airline would use native Kano people who had finished professional pilot training, including those who had graduated from a state-sponsored program in Jordan that had been started by a previous government.
Other states are also following Suit, with six northeastern states working together to construct a projected Northeast Air Shuttle regional airline. Other states, like as Anambra, Edo, Lagos, and Sokoto, have expressed plans to start their own carriers or collaborate with existing operators.
