The Mad Hatters was formed by a travel enthusiast, Aneeqa Ali, whose passion for traveling took her to the remotest corners of the country, and made her fall in love with the beauty, heritage, and diversity of Pakistan. Through this platform she aims to educate people about the beautiful landscapes, culture, lifestyle, crafts, and cuisines of the country – the side of Pakistan which generally does

not get the deserved limelight. We provide a platform to like-minded individuals who are passionate about exploring new places and learning new skills. The educational element of our trips gives a hands-on insight into the local culture and lifestyle of the places we visit. We take education and learning out of classrooms to make it an entertaining and interactive experience that encourages people to think out of the box. Pakistan is home to some of the most spectacular landscapes, architecture, and communities. Our goal is not only to explore these amazing areas, but also to make them better through our conservation and community development activities. Last, but not the least, of course we plan to have a lot of fun during the course, and the trips are bound to cater to your adventurous and leisurely desires as well. Our trips can be broadly categorized in the following divisions:
- Cultural Exploration
- Adventure and Fun
- Leisure and Recreation
- Women Power
- Arts and Crafts
- Education
- Conservation
- Community Development

From hand-dyed wool to the slow rhythm of the loom, Soumak carpets are woven with care, memory, and tradition.
The patterns—drawn from local plants, animals, and ancient fractals—are more than decoration. They’re a language passed down through generations.

Chilam Joshi: Be a Respectful Guest, Not a Disruptive Tourist

Every May, the Kalasha people open their hearts to the world during the vibrant Chilam Joshi festival. If you're lucky enough to attend, remember: you're a guest in someone else's sacred tradition.

Do’s and Don’ts for Tourists at Chilam Joshi

Do:
- Ask permission before taking photos – especially of people.
- Dress modestly and respectfully.
- Listen and learn – be curious, not judgmental.
- Support local artisans by buying handmade crafts.
- Leave no trace – respect the natural beauty of Kalash Valley.

Don’t:
- Don’t treat the festival like a photoshoot.
- Don’t touch sacred items or interrupt rituals.
- Don’t bring alcohol or act in a rowdy way – it’s still a sacred time.
- Don’t assume you know better – observe with humility.

Remember: Chilam Joshi isn't just a fun festival — it’s someone’s way of life.

Be kind, be aware, and celebrate with heart.

Nestled in the heart of ancient Gandhara, Taxila stands as a silent witness to centuries of spiritual, cultural, and intellectual evolution. Once a thriving center of Buddhist learning, it attracted scholars and monks from across Asia, making it one of the earliest universities in the world.

Buddhism flourished in this region—modern-day Pakistan—under the Mauryan and Kushan empires, with stupas, monasteries, and sculptures still echoing the peaceful teachings of the Buddha.

But Taxila’s influence wasn't just spiritual—it was strategically located on the Silk Route, the ancient trade network that connected East to West. This made it a melting pot of ideas, art, language, and goods, linking civilizations from China to Rome.

Today, the ruins of Taxila are a UNESCO World Heritage site, reminding us of Pakistan's rich and diverse past—a land where spirituality, intellect, and commerce once flowed side by side.

Our Story

The Mad Hatters is the brainchild of Aneeqa Ali, an avid cyclist and travel enthusiast. After graduating with an MBA degree from Lahore School of Economics, she acquired a diverse skill set by working in various industries, including investment banking, telecommunication, education, not-for-profit, and the fashion industry.

Aneeqa’s passion for traveling took her to the remotest corners of the country, and made her fall in love with the beauty, heritage, and diversity of Pakistan. Giving in to her love for traveling, she decided to turn her passion into a career and came up with the idea of ‘The Mad Hatters’; a platform for all the wandering souls like herself, who have an unconventional way of approaching this life and its challenges.

Through this platform we aim to educate people about the beautiful landscapes, culture, lifestyle, crafts, and cuisines of the country – the side of Pakistan which generally does not get the deserved limelight. We also intend to aid local communities through our conservation and community development initiatives, by providing them an opportunity to get recognition on a bigger scale.

The Mad Hatters is not only an attempt at opening career opportunities for females in unconventional fields, but also to make the travel industry more female-friendly. We strongly believe that you have to be the change you want to see in the world. On almost all the trips that we have organized so far the ratio of females has been higher than males, which is a market abnormality that says a great deal.
