Shigar Fort named in Balti (The fort on Rock) is a historic fort located in the valley of the Baltistan region in Pakistan. The fort was built by the Raja Amacha Dynasty of Shiger in the 17th century
The fort was originally constructed as a defensive structure to protect the region from external threats. It was strategically located at the entrance of the valley, which served as an important trading route between Baltistan and Kashmir.

Over time, the fort was expanded and renovated by subsequent rulers, including the Dogra rulers of Kashmir, who used it as a residence for their local governor. The fort was also used as a military garrison during the British colonial period.

After Pakistan gained independence in 1947, the fort was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was later restored by the Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage in Pakistan. Restoration starts in 1999 and was completed in 2004, it cost approximately US$1.4 million.

Nowadays, Shigar Fort is a popular tourist destination and has been converted into a heritage hotel. It is known for its stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It is also home to several cultural and educational programs, including workshops on traditional arts and crafts, and a school for local children.

Silk Route connecting Gateway

The Silk Route was an ancient Gateway of trade tributaries that linked the East and West. This term has used by German geographer and traveler Ferdinand von Richthofen in 1877. It originated from Xian (Sian), China, and went on to the Levant modern day (Syria, Lebanon, Jardon, and Israel, connecting the major civilizations, Indus, Persia, Arabia, Greece, and Rome. The Silk Route played a magnificent role in the cultural, economic, religious, and political exchange between these regions and has been named after the valuable silk traded along these routes.
Indus Valley connects China through Kilik-Mintika(Gujal, Hunza) Passes near Kashghar. These passes were the southern part of the Silk Route. Partition of Pakistan and China agreement signed to connect through the new carpeted Silk Route (Karakoram Highway, 1974). Kilik and Mantika passes are now used for trekking and hiking.
It has not a road but a network of pathways that varied in terms of length and direction depending on local conditions, the goods being traded, and political circumstances. Caravans of merchants and missionaries traveled along the route, exchanging, and spreading cultural influences.

Mansehra Rock Edicts, Ganddhran Art
Manshera is a city located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The site is near Karakoram Highway on the ancient Silk Route. It is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, including its association with Buddhism. During ancient times, Manshera was a part of the Mauryan Dynasty and was an important center of Buddhism in the region.
Mansehra Rock Edicts are fourteen of the Mauryan King Ashoka inscribed on rocks. That dates back to the 3rd century BC when the region was under his rule. At that Buddhist missionaries and scholars such as Ashoka and his son Mahindra helped spread the religion in the area. The city was also home to several Buddhist monasteries, stupas, and rock-cut shrines adorned with intricate carvings, sculptures, Buddhist stories, and teachings.
Today, the remains of these ancient Buddhist sites are protected and preserved by the government of Pakistan. The Manshera Museum houses many of these artifacts, and the city is a popular destination for tourists interested in exploring its rich Buddhist history.

Ghizer Valley, The Land of Beauty

Ghizer valley is one of the main districts of Gilgit-Baltistan located westernmost part of the Gilgit Division. Its western part comprises Phander, Gupis, and Yasin Valley, while Puniyal and Ishkomen are located in the eastern part. Gahkuch city is headquartered in the Ghizer Valley. The famous Shandoor pass connects the Ghizer district with Chitral. Through the Broghil pass elevation (3882 meters) along the Durand Line, this stunning valley connects with the Wahkhan province of Afghanistan. Khowar, Shina, Burushaski, and Wakhi are spoken in this valley. After the amalgamation of the State honors in Gilgit-Baltistan s, in 1974 this district developed.
This valley is known for eye-catching lakes, finely carved mountains, delicious trout fish, the hospitality of people, and spectacular valleys. The highest peak is Khoyo Zom (6871 m), which lies on the boundary between Ghizer District and Chitral.
Some of the uses for trekking and hiking are the Shandoor pass, Chumarkhan pass, Hayal pass, Qurumbar pass, Thoi pass, and Darkot pass. These passes connect Ghizer with Chitral or other districts of GB.
One of the main reasons for Ghizer valley’s charming look is its crystal-clear lakes. Khalti lake, Phander lake, Handarap lake, Qarambar lake, Baha lake, and Shanddor lake are major tourist points and are replete with trout fish.
A few historical forts enhance its beauty Gupis fort, Gahkuch fort, Modori Fort, and Dorkhand fort Yasin. These forts are not in their original shape and need proper conservation & restoration. The government of Gilgit-Baltistan primarily be focused on these forts to restore tourism promotion to attract foreign and local tourists.
