People on the Move | Daniel Moran Appointed EAM – Director of Rooms at The Miami Beach EDITION

Moran joins the Miami Beach property after more than four years with The Times Square EDITION, where he most recently served as Director of Housekeeping, following three years as Director of Front Office.
Before that, he spent more than four years with EDITION in New York, progressing from Manager of Guest Services to Director of Guest Experience.

Earlier in his career, he spent nearly eight years with Gansevoort Hotel Group as Guest Services Manager, overseeing guest services and arrival operations.
His earlier experience includes roles with Discover New York, Allied T Pro, and Parker New York, building a strong foundation in luxury travel, guest services, front office operations, client relations, and hospitality management.

We congratulate Daniel Moran on his new appointment and wish him continued success in his new role at The Miami Beach EDITION.

Google has officially opened its first local in , marking a significant step in the company’s presence in the country as Pakistan accelerates its digital transformation.

The development comes as the government targets US$30 billion in annual IT exports, with a focus on AI, cloud computing, startups, digital skills, connectivity and technology-driven growth.

At the inauguration, Google Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Wilson L. White highlighted the company’s decade-long engagement with Pakistan, stating that Google’s initiatives have contributed to more than Rs3.9 trillion in economic activity and supported over 960,000 jobs.

📌 For Pakistan’s tourism and hospitality sector, a stronger digital economy could also create opportunities in travel technology, digital marketing, AI-powered services, e-commerce, online booking and workforce development.

The federal is considering the Shaheed-i-Millat Secretariat building in F-6/1, Islamabad, into a luxury five-star hotel ahead of the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ( ) Summit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee comprising the interior, housing and finance ministers and senior federal officials to examine the proposal.

The proposed conversion could provide approximately:
128 guest rooms
64 luxury suites
Rooftop restaurant and penthouse facilities
A strategic location with easy access to the Red Zone and key government installations

The move comes as Islamabad prepares for major international events. CDA officials estimate that around 4,000 international-standard hotel rooms will be required for the and other upcoming events, with an estimated shortfall of around 1,000 top-class rooms.

If approved, converting an existing government building could offer a faster way to expand Islamabad’s premium hospitality capacity while putting an underutilised asset to productive use.

📌 The proposal is currently under review and would require final approval from the federal cabinet.

🌍 Is “Tiny Tourism” the of ?

A new called Tourism is encouraging travellers to skip the usual tourist checklist and experience destinations through the small, everyday moments that locals know best.

Think:
Exploring local supermarkets
Taking public transport
Visiting thrift shops and neighbourhood markets
Eating at local spots
Joining everyday activities with residents
Discovering places beyond the viral tourist attractions

The idea is simple: experience a destination, rather than simply see it.
But does that mean we should skip the iconic sights?
Probably not.

A trip to Dublin without seeing Trinity College or experiencing Temple Bar may feel incomplete. The real opportunity may be what we could call “Medium Tourism”, combining the must-see attractions with authentic, lesser-known local experiences.

For destinations, this shift offers an important lesson: don't make the famous attractions the only story you tell.

The next generation of travellers may want both the landmark and the local story behind it.

People on the Move | Rob Kucera Appointed Regional Vice President for East & South Africa at Aleph Hospitality

Rob Kucera brings extensive hospitality experience to his new role. Most recently, he served as General Manager and District Director for East Africa at Radisson Hotel Group, alongside his role as General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali.

During his career with Radisson, Kucera held leadership positions in Nairobi, Kigali and Istanbul, building extensive expertise in hotel operations, multi-property management, business growth, and guest experience. His earlier career includes senior roles with Westin, Marriott, Mövenpick and Protea Hotels in South Africa, as well as serving as Chief Operations Officer at Hospitality Property Fund.
He has also contributed to the development of the hospitality industry in South Africa as Chairman of the FEDHASA Cape Board. His career has been recognised through several industry accolades, including the 2026 recognition among Africa’s Top 50 General Managers.

نیشنل ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اتھارٹی (NDMA) کے نیشنل ایمرجنسیز آپریشن سینٹر (NEOC) نے 17 تا 23 اگست گلگت بلتستان، خیبر پختونخوا اور آزاد کشمیر کے حساس پہاڑی علاقوں میں گلیشیائی جھیلوں کے پھٹنے (GLOF)، اچانک سیلاب، ملبے کے بہاؤ اور لینڈ سلائیڈنگ کے ممکنہ خطرات کے پیش نظر الرٹ جاری کر دیا ہے۔

مون سون بارشوں، بڑھتے ہوئے درجہ حرارت اور گلیشیئرز و برف پگھلنے کے باعث پہاڑی علاقوں میں اچانک سیلاب اور برساتی ندی نالوں میں طغیانی کا خطرہ بڑھ سکتا ہے۔

📍 خصوصی طور پر حساس علاقے

گلگت بلتستان، خیبر پختونخوا اور آزاد کشمیر کے متعدد پہاڑی علاقے، وادیاں، ندی نالے اور اہم شاہراہیں لینڈ سلائیڈنگ، پتھر گرنے اور اچانک سیلاب کے خطرے سے متاثر ہو سکتی ہیں۔

22 تا 24 اگست گلگت بلتستان کے حساس پہاڑی علاقوں میں لینڈ سلائیڈنگ اور پتھر گرنے کا بھی خدشہ ہے، جس سے سڑکوں کی بندش، آمدورفت میں خلل اور آبادیوں کا رابطہ منقطع ہونے کا خطرہ موجود ہے۔

🌊 دریاؤں میں پانی کے بہاؤ میں اضافہ

مون سون بارشوں کے باعث تمام بڑے دریاؤں میں پانی کے بہاؤ میں اضافے کا امکان ہے، جبکہ بعض مقامات پر کم سے درمیانے درجے کے بہاؤ کی صورتحال متوقع ہے۔

🛑 عوام کے لیے اہم احتیاطی تدابیر

• گلیشیئرز، گلیشیائی جھیلوں، دریاؤں، ندی نالوں اور خطرناک پہاڑی ڈھلوانوں کے قریب غیر ضروری نقل و حرکت سے گریز کریں۔
• سیلابی پانی یا تیز بہاؤ کو پیدل یا گاڑی کے ذریعے ہرگز عبور نہ کریں۔
• شدید بارش یا خطرے کی وارننگ کی صورت میں غیر ضروری سفر سے گریز کریں۔
• سفر سے پہلے موسم اور سڑکوں کی تازہ ترین صورتحال معلوم کریں۔
• بند یا خطرناک قرار دی گئی سڑکوں پر سفر نہ کریں۔
• پہاڑی علاقوں میں سیاحتی سرگرمیوں کے دوران برساتی ندی نالوں سے محفوظ فاصلہ رکھیں۔
• سفر کے دوران پانی، خشک خوراک، ٹارچ، فرسٹ ایڈ کٹ اور پاور بینک ساتھ رکھیں۔
• کسی بھی غیر معمولی پانی کے بہاؤ یا سطح میں اچانک اضافے کی فوری اطلاع متعلقہ اداروں کو دیں۔
• Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App کے ذریعے بروقت موسمی اور ڈیزاسٹر الرٹس سے باخبر رہیں۔
