As urban development and artificial lighting continue to brighten the UAE’s skyline, dark-sky destinations like Al Quaa Desert are offering visitors a rare chance to reconnect with the night sky.

Located about 100 km from Abu Dhabi, Al Quaa is one of the UAE’s darkest locations, where stargazers can still witness the Milky Way with the naked eye. Astronomy enthusiasts and tourists regularly visit the desert to observe stars, meteors, and celestial events away from city lights.

The growing interest in astrotourism highlights a rising demand for nature-based and experiential travel, encouraging travelers to explore the beauty of the night sky while promoting awareness about light pollution.

and are becoming central to the future of luxury hospitality, as travelers increasingly prioritize health, recovery, sleep, and nutrition during their trips.

Driven largely by Millennials and Gen Z, a new wave of performance-focused hotels is emerging with advanced fitness facilities, recovery therapies, wellness-focused dining, and sleep-enhancing room designs.

The global wellness tourism market reached $894 billion in 2024 and is projected to continue strong growth in the coming years.

Industry experts say the shift reflects changing traveler expectations, where hotels are now expected to support daily wellness routines rather than interrupt them.

in the is being reshaped by rising costs, economic uncertainty, and changing traveller priorities.

What was expected to be a major rebound season for long-haul holidays has instead become a summer of “smart swaps,” with many Americans choosing shorter, more affordable, and closer-to-home experiences.

According to recent surveys:
65% of Americans have altered their summer travel plans due to rising prices
31% changed destinations or cancelled trips entirely
Many travellers are replacing international vacations with domestic road trips and regional getaways

At the same time, global uncertainty, rising fuel prices, and disrupted air routes are influencing travel behavior worldwide.

Industry experts note that while people still want to travel, they are becoming far more selective about where they go, how they spend, and how much uncertainty they are willing to accept.

The trend highlights a broader shift toward practical, experience-driven, and budget-conscious tourism in 2026.
