His Highness Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan 5, arrived today in Islamabad on an official seven-day visit to Pakistan, at the invitation of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Upon his arrival, His Highness was received by the President of Pakistan, His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari and his daughter First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. Also present were Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Information; Saleem Mandviwalla, Member of the Senate; Sultan Ali Allana, Director of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development; and the senior leadership of the Ismaili Community in Pakistan.

The President and His Highness travelled together to Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) where a guard of honour was presented. Following a bilateral meeting, President Zardari hosted a banquet in honour of His Highness’s visit this evening.

Guests at the banquet included Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah. Also in attendance were federal ministers, members of parliament and members of the diplomatic community.

This is the Aga Khan's first visit to Pakistan since assuming leadership of the Ismaili Muslim community as the 50th Imam, following the passing of his father, His Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV in February 2025.

During his visit, His Highness will meet with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and other government officials and will meet with members of the Ismaili community in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.

We urge the authorities to begin the reconstruction of the affected areas without delay.

Ismaili Regional Council Delegation Meets Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahead of Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s Expected GB Visit

Gilgit: The Ismaili Regional Council delegation visited Jamia Islamia Nusrat-ul-Islam Konodas and met Amir of Tanzeem Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan, Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad, to discuss the expected visit of Prince Rahim Aga Khan to Gilgit-Baltistan in the coming days and the overall situation in the region.

According to a statement released by Tanzeem Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan, the delegation sought cooperation and support from the leadership regarding the anticipated visit and also held detailed discussions on maintaining peace and harmony in the region. The delegation appreciated the peace efforts and reconciliatory role played by Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad assured the delegation of full cooperation during Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s expected visit to Gilgit-Baltistan. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace, respecting each other’s beliefs and working together for the development and prosperity of the region.

Qazi Nisar leader also thanked the delegation for visiting Jamia Islamia Nusrat-ul-Islam Konodas.

Heavy rain severely damaged Shimshal road at multiple locations.

Hundreds of students, elderly and sick have been stranded forcing them to travel on foot.

We register our protest to facilitate and provide imitate funds to reconstruct the road.

Whenever Shimshal road is blocked local community Leads the work themselves. Government and responsible authorities are always late to respond.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the advisory, a moderate westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country, bringing widespread rain, windstorms, and isolated heavy rainfall in mountainous catchment areas.

The PMD warned that the weather conditions could increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable regions.

Social and political activists, including Khalid Khursheed, former Chief Minister and president of Tehreek-i-Insaf Gilgit-Baltistan, have criticised the ruling. They have accused the tribunal and the regional government of acting as instruments of selective justice, deliberately keeping genuine popular voices out of the fray. They are demanding immediate intervention to restore Baba Jan's candidacy. They accuse the election commission of excluding genuine popular candidates from the election.
For a region already deprived of genuine representation, constitutional and democratic rights is not just a political crisis, it is a wound festering to democracy itself.
