Condolence Message
It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of most accomplished mountaineers in the devastating avalanche on Broad Peak (8,047m) in the Karakoram.
This heartbreaking tragedy has deeply saddened the entire mountaineering community of Pakistan and around the world. The loss of these courageous climbers, who came from different nations united by their passion for the mountains, is an immeasurable loss to the global mountaineering fraternity.
On behalf of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, I express my sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, friends, expedition organizers, and the mountaineering communities of all the countries affected by this tragedy. We stand in solidarity with them during this time of immense grief and pray that they find strength, courage, and comfort to bear this irreparable loss.
I also pay tribute to the Pakistan Army Aviation and other elements of Pakistan Army, Government of Gilgit Baltistan departments, Nepali government, high-altitude rescuers, Sherpas, local climbers, and all those who participated in the search and recovery operation under extremely difficult weather and terrain. Their courage, commitment, and selfless efforts reflect the true spirit of humanity and mountaineering.
The mountains inspire us with their beauty, but they also remind us of the immense risks faced by those who venture into the high Himalaya and Karakoram. The legacy of these mountaineers will continue to inspire future generations with their courage, determination, and love for the mountains.
May Almighty Allah grant eternal peace to the departed souls and bestow patience and strength upon their families and loved ones.

HE SKIED EVEREST WITHOUT OXYGEN. NOW HE’S GOING AFTER THE “KILLER MOUNTAIN.”

Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel is once again pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the high mountains.
In September 2025, he made history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest and ski all the way down to Base Camp without supplemental oxygen. It was a remarkable achievement that captured the attention of the mountaineering world.
Now, Bargiel has set his sights on another legendary challenge: Nanga Parbat (8,126m), known worldwide as the “Killer Mountain.”
His objective is a complete and continuous ski descent from the summit via the formidable Diamir Face, one of the most technical and dangerous routes on the mountain. No supplemental oxygen, no fixed ropes, and no interruptions, just skill, determination, and commitment at extreme altitude.
Bargiel has already secured his place in mountaineering history as the first person to climb without supplemental oxygen and ski down all four Pakistani 8,000-meter peaks in the Karakoram: K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II.
If successful on Nanga Parbat, he will add yet another extraordinary chapter to an already remarkable legacy.

MIRACLE ON EVEREST

When Dawa Sherpa disappeared high on Mount Everest, above 7,500 metres in the infamous Death Zone, most feared the worst.

The 2026 spring climbing season on Mount Everest has set a new record, with more than 1,000 climbers successfully reaching the summit. Favorable weather conditions, effective route management, and enhanced logistical support contributed to the highest number of ascents ever recorded on the world's highest peak.
The season also demonstrated the continued evolution of mountaineering practices, with improved safety measures and coordination helping to keep fatalities relatively low despite the unprecedented number of climbers. This achievement reflects the dedication of climbers, guides, expedition operators, and the Nepalese authorities who work tirelessly to ensure the success and safety of Everest expeditions.
