🔴 BREAKING: Body of Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi found on Broad Peak
The body of Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi has been found on Broad Peak, 15 days after he went missing following an avalanche, according to sources at the mountain's base camp.
Porters travelling toward Broad Peak discovered the body and brought it back to base camp, the sources said. Sakhi was from Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan and had been climbing with Nirmal “Nims” Purja's expedition team.
His body is expected to be transported by helicopter from base camp to Skardu, although the timing and arrangements could change depending on weather and operational conditions.
Sakhi was among the climbers caught in the avalanche that struck Broad Peak. Seven climbers, including five Nepali mountaineers, had already been reported dead in the disaster.
His recovery brings an end to a 15-day search and gives his family and fellow climbers a chance to bring him home.
Broad Peak, one of Pakistan's highest mountains, has again shown the risks faced by climbers and high-altitude workers in the Karakoram, where weather and mountain conditions can change rapidly.
For the families waiting at home, how important is it for Pakistan to strengthen high-altitude rescue and recovery systems on its major peaks?

This is the mountain where, just a few days ago, a devastating avalanche claimed the lives of ten climbers. 💔

This is Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains, located close to K2. It stands at 8,051 meters (26,414 feet), while K2 rises to 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) above sea level.

From a distance, the mountain looks peaceful, majestic, and breathtakingly beautiful. But in reality, it is just as dangerous and unforgiving. The weather can change within moments, avalanches can strike without warning, and even the smallest mistake can mean the difference between life and death.

Those who attempt to climb these towering peaks carry with them not only extraordinary physical strength, but also immense courage, patience, and determination.

Behind every successful expedition are countless risks, sacrifices, and the endless prayers of loved ones waiting back home.

Yet sometimes, even the best preparation and years of experience are powerless against the forces of nature.

These mountains remind us that nature is not only incredibly beautiful—it is also immensely powerful and unpredictable.

For the families of all the climbers who lost their lives, this is a heartbreaking and unforgettable loss. 💔

On this day, 10 August 2005, Slovenian climber Tomaž Humar 🇸🇮 was rescued from Nanga Parbat’s immense Rupal Face after being trapped for six days at around 6,300 metres.

Humar had been attempting a bold solo ascent when fierce storms forced him to shelter in a snow cave as avalanches swept across the face. With food and fuel running low, he remained in contact with his team by satellite phone. Rescue appeared almost impossible until Pakistan Army pilots Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Ullah Baig and Major Khalid Amir Rana flew a Lama helicopter into the face and lifted him from the icy ledge. Frostbitten but alive, Humar survived one of the most daring high-altitude rescues in mountaineering history.

Four years later, in November 2009, Humar attempted another solo climb, this time on Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) in Nepal. After reporting that he had been injured in a fall, contact was lost. His body was later located and recovered from the mountain, bringing a tragic end to the life of one of the world’s boldest alpinists.

Tragic news: 10 climbers including Nirmal Purja lost contact after avalanche on Broad Peak

A 10-member international expedition team led by world-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja has lost contact after a massive avalanche hit Pakistan’s 8,047-meter-high peak Broad Peak.

The avalanche reportedly hit the upper part on Thursday afternoon, after which all contact with the team was lost. The missing team includes five Nepalese climbers, local guide Sohail Saqi, and climbers from the United States, Oman, and China.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, search and rescue operations are underway with the cooperation of government agencies, the Pakistan Army, and expedition operators. Bad weather conditions are hampering immediate action, but helicopters and rescue teams will be dispatched as soon as the weather improves.

Broad Peak is the twelfth highest peak in the world, located in the rugged Karakoram range, and is considered a major challenge for mountaineers around the world due to its harsh weather conditions and dangerous routes.

🚨 BROAD PEAK RESCUE UPDATE 🚨

A large-scale rescue operation is underway on Broad Peak (8,051m) following the recent avalanche in Pakistan's Karakoram Range.

Pakistani authorities have mobilized both aerial and ground rescue efforts. Askari Aviation helicopters continue search and reconnaissance flights over the Baltoro region, while an experienced ground rescue team led by renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Khan is advancing toward the affected area under extremely demanding mountain conditions.

Rescue operations at high altitude are complex and time-critical, with challenging terrain, weather, and altitude presenting significant obstacles. The dedication and courage of the rescue teams reflect the strong spirit of the mountaineering community.

Our thoughts remain with the missing climbers, rescue personnel, and their families during this difficult time. We continue to hope for positive developments and pray for strength, safety, and a miracle.

🙌 The global climbing community stands united in hope.
