Greetings from Spantik Camp III

videos were recorded by the people who were with late Asma Mushtaq at Camp III. After summiting Spantik, Asma Mushtaq sadly passed away from altitude sickness during the descent.

Later, four young volunteers from Arandu, Shigar, led by Mr. Mehboob Shigri, took part in the rescue operation and recovered her remains.

On this day, September 17, 1944, one of the greatest mountaineers to ever live was born in Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy.

Reinhold Messner needs no introduction to anyone who loves the mountains — the first person to summit Everest without supplemental oxygen, with Peter Habeler in 1978; the first to solo Everest in 1980; and the first human to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, all without bottled oxygen.

Beyond the 8,000ers, Messner pioneered alpine-style climbing at a time when siege-style expeditions dominated the Himalaya, redefining what was considered possible with minimal gear and maximum audacity.

He went on to cross Antarctica and Greenland without snowmobiles or dogs, trek solo across the Gobi Desert, and author more than 60 books on climbing and adventure.

Decades later, his name remains synonymous with a generation of mountaineering that pushed the limits of what was thought possible in the world's highest mountains.

🎂 Happy Birthday, Reinhold Messner — and thank you for changing the way the world sees the mountains.
