Nimsdai’s Final Salute

Record-breaking Nepali-British mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja will receive a special farewell in the UK, with a Guard of Honour planned for his funeral in Poole, Dorset, on August 26.

Purja was among 10 climbers killed in the Broad Peak avalanche on July 30. His remains arrived in the UK on August 9.

A former British Gurkha, Nimsdai made history by climbing all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in just six months and six days, inspiring climbers worldwide and carrying Nepal’s name to the global stage.

Now, as Britain prepares to give him his final salute, calls are growing for Nepal to recognize him as a national hero.

The mountains were where Nimsdai made history. Now, the world prepares to remember the legend.

پہاڑوں کی بلندی پر دریا کی ریت؟ آخر یہ کیسے ممکن ہے؟

پاکستان کے شمالی علاقوں کے بلند و بالا پہاڑوں پر جگہ جگہ صاف ستھری، گول دانوں والی دریا کی ریت اور بجری نظر آتی ہے، حالانکہ موجودہ دریا ان مقامات سے سینکڑوں فٹ نیچے بہتے ہیں۔ آخر یہ ریت یہاں پہنچی کیسے؟

اس کے پیچھے ہماری زمین کی کروڑوں سالہ کہانی چھپی ہے۔

ممکن ہے یہ ریت قدیم دریاؤں کی چھوڑی ہوئی تہیں ہوں۔ وقت کے ساتھ پہاڑ بلند ہوتے گئے، جبکہ دریاؤں نے اپنی وادیاں مزید گہری کاٹ لیں۔ یوں پرانا دریا بستر آج پہاڑ کی بلندی پر نظر آتا ہے۔

کچھ ریت اور بجری قدیم گلیشیئرز اور برفانی پگھلاؤ کے ذریعے بھی یہاں جمع ہوئی۔ یعنی آج پہاڑوں پر بکھری یہ ریت دراصل ماضی کے دریاؤں، گلیشیئرز اور مسلسل بدلتی زمین کی ایک خاموش یادگار ہے۔

ہمالیہ اور قراقرم میں ہندوستانی اور یوریشیائی ٹیکٹونک پلیٹوں کے تصادم کی وجہ سے زمین آج بھی مسلسل بلند ہو رہی ہے۔ گلگت میں ہسپر کے علاقے میں بلند دریائی terraces کو حالیہ ارضیاتی uplift کا ثبوت بھی سمجھا گیا ہے۔

شمال کے پہاڑ صرف خوبصورت نہیں، بلکہ زمین کی ایک قدیم کتاب بھی ہیں—جس کا ہر پتھر اور ہر ذرّہ ایک کہانی سناتا ہے۔
