๐๏ธ A Young Life Lost on Everest โ Phura Gyaljen Sherpa ๐๏ธ
Phura Gyaljen Sherpa โ a young Sherpa whose journey on the mountains came to an incredibly heartbreaking end.
At an age when most people are only beginning to discover their dreams, Phura Gyaljen was already facing one of the most unforgiving environments on Earth โ Mount Everest.
On the night of 11 May 2026, while carrying supplies toward the higher camps in preparation for the summit push, he slipped on the Lhotse Face near Camp III and fell into a deep crevasse. Despite the efforts of fellow Sherpas and expedition members to recover him, his injuries were fatal.
He was not simply another name on a climbing list. He came from a legendary Sherpa mountaineering family and was the grandson of Ang Rita Sherpa, famously known as the โSnow Leopard,โ who reached the summit of Everest ten times without supplemental oxygen.
Everest is often remembered through summit photographs โ climbers standing proudly at 8,849 metres, celebrating a dream achieved.
But behind many of those photographs are Sherpas who carry the loads, prepare the routes, fix ropes and face the mountainโs dangers long before others reach the summit.
Phura Gyaljen was one of them.
His story reminds us that behind every summit is a human life, a family waiting at home, and dreams that sometimes never get the chance to reach the top.
๐๏ธ The mountain will remain.
The memories will remain.
But a young life and a familyโs dreams have been taken away forever.
May Phura Gyaljen Sherpa rest in peace. ๐๏ธ
May his family and loved ones find strength in this unimaginable loss.
