Eating gluten-free in Poland can feel confusing at first.
But the challenge isn’t always the dishes themselves.
It’s how they’re prepared.
In Polish cuisine, gluten often appears where you don’t expect it:
• in soups (used to thicken them)
• in sauces
• in fillings
• in breading
At the same time, many traditional ingredients are naturally gluten-free:
• meat
• potatoes
• vegetables
• eggs
• fermented foods like pickles and sauerkraut
A simple way to think about it:
👉 some dishes are usually safe
👉 some depend on preparation
👉 some are usually not gluten-free
Understanding this pattern can make navigating menus a little more straightforward.
It’s one of the things worth knowing when eating gluten-free in Poland.
