Originally, merchants traded cloth and other goods here, making the Cloth Hall one of the most important commercial places in medieval Kraków. 🧵🪙

Auschwitz - five dates that the world must remember.

- 27 April 1940 - Heinrich Himmler ordered the establishment of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
- 14 June 1940 - The first transport of prisoners arrived at Auschwitz (728 Polish political prisoners).
- 1942 - Mass deportations of Jews to Auschwitz began, along with the mass murder in the gas chambers.
- 27 January 1945 - Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated by the Soviet army. This date is now observed as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
- 2 July 1947 - The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum was established to preserve the memory of the victims and document the history of the camp.
