One of our favorite places to visit from Poznań is Owińska! You can see there the church built by Pompeo Ferrari, an Italian architect, one of the best from those settled in Poland (the same one that designed the alter in the Parish church which we always show you during our Old Town Tour!) and former Cistercian monastery ⛪

After that time for some workout – climb the viewpoint on Warta River and see the oak Bartek 🌳 that according to the legend was planted on command of the king Władysław Jagiełło after winning the battle against the Teutonic Knights order ⚔ It is said that Napoleon himself admired that great tree.

The city is on the St Jacob’s Road (Camino de Santiago) so you can call it a small pilgrimage ;) 🛤

If you plan to visit Owinska on Saturday, you can contact via e-mail the Typhlological Museum that educated about blindness as well as the Park that helps people with sight deseases to orientate in the city, as well as see the abandoned Von Treskow Palace 🏛 probably built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel (the same one that designed Altes Museum in Berlin!)

Did you know that in this building now belonging to the National Bank of Poland used to live a person who created soundtrack to famous Polanski movie "Rosemary's baby"? 🤱👶 Pioneer of modern jazz in Poland and one of the best film music composers in our history 🎼🎵🎶, Krzysztof Komeda-Trzciński studied and worked as a laryngologist in Poznań. Close to Medical University of Poznan 👨‍⚕, his Alma Mater you can find another monument commemorating him: Komeda watching the photos from his life 📷

Why do you hear so often people in Poznan speaking about Malta? We usually don’t mean the island 🏝️😉 but the artificial lake close to the Cathedral Island ✝️ Located in the place where the Maltese order premises used to be, this lake was created in the 50s and it’s used for the rowing 🚣 and canoeing 🛶 competitions (among them even World Championships). Not only you can take a walk around the lake but also ride a small train 🚂 called Maltanka! Designed for an amusement park 🎡, due to lack of interest it was moved to the lake where its popularity increased so much it became one of the greatest attractions of the city, especially for the youngest

From 18 July to 18 October in Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie (International Fair of Poznan) you can see an amazing exhibition of paitings, sketches and photos of Zbigniew Beksinski. Educated as an architect, he never really felt urban or building planning was his real vocation. Although he worked in his profession, he soon started to take pictures and paint. His dark, unique style was often inspired by the topic of death. Sad life of Zbigniew Beksinski and his family was described in a movie „Ostatnia rodzina”. You can buy the tickets for the exhibition on spot- entrance from Glogowska 18 (Hall number 1)

In the beginning of the XX century Poznan still belonged to the Prussian state. Its growing administration needed more place for their headquaters so in the place where formerly stood some buildings belonging to the nearby Franciscan convent they created that representative building that served for the city's municipality. Designed in a neo-baroque style to fit neighboring church as well as Museum, it's wall was adorned with a clock by Weule from Harz mountain and mosaic by Otto Böttgear from Poznań. 🕰
