The adjustable, extra-long arm was created to allow for the highest number of functional tests and exercises that are possible for the user to perform. The arm can be locked at different positions, ranging from ground level up to 2.3 meters. The swivel pulley rotates 360 degrees, so that pulling/pushing motions can be performed in almost any direction. Thousands of functional tests and exercises can be performed by switching between different handles and using accessories like benches and the 1080 Vest. Furthermore, a cable travel length of 5 meters (16 ft) allows for the performance of additional new sport-specific tests and exercises such as short-distance sprint bursts, sidestepping and shuffling, and repeated lunges. Combined with the 1080 MAP movement assessment profile, a targeted and high precision individualized athlete development is made possible. MODES AND SETTINGS
The patented robotic technology allows for different modes (normal weight, no flying weight, isokinetic, isotonic, and vibration) to be used during testing, training, and treatment. The load and speed can be controlled within each of these different modes. Additionally, the load and speed can be set independent of each other in the concentric and eccentric phase of any functional movement pattern. DOCUMENTATION AND REPORTING
Data from testing, training, and rehabilitation is stored electronically in the cloud under the profile of the client and athlete. You will now be able to document improved performance and create reports based on your needs.

You now have more data live to help you make better training decisions. Instead of simply looking at “what” the athlete did from a results perspective, now you can dive deeper into “how” they achieved that

Training around an injury isn’t about doing less

It’s about being creative to find the right stimulus within the constraints of the athlete

Matt Price walks us through how he kept intense lower-body training going for an athlete with a torn ankle ligament

Excessive dorsiflexion was the main constraint. So he paired a slant board with a 1080 Cable in a low position to create an eccentric overload Sissy Squat, challenging the quads without needing much dorsiflexion from the ankle

Because when the angle of pull is modifiable and the loading is precise, injuries become a problem to solve instead of a reason to stop

When you have the ability to create smooth and precise loading, the training ideas that were always logical become possible to turn into reality

on how he discovered the heavy broad jump and why the load is probably higher than you’d expect:

✅ Power and speed are plane-specific. We load vertical jumps heavily, why not do the same horizontally?
✅ Use a Load-Velocity Profile for the movement to find individualized loads for that athlete
✅ Get buy-in. An athlete who understands the “why” behind it
✅ Do what makes sense to you and iterate from there

Because now good training ideas don’t have to just stay ideas

Developing acceleration requires 2 things: drills that challenge specific positions and loading that develops force. But the challenge has always been finding effective ways to combine those things

“Acceleration derivatives” do the first part. A modified starting position, like a half-kneeling start, to create a specific challenge the athlete has to accelerate from

The problem is loading them. Heavy resistance in an already challenging position is counterproductive. The drill can break down before the sprint even happens

Variable loading (having the load change throughout the rep) changes that. This could be something like 3kg to start and gradually builds to 10kg or 15kg. Starting light relative to the position, then have the load increase as the athlete gets faster

Developing an athlete’s change of direction should follow the same programming and periodization principles as any other training quality

But the tools haven’t always been there to support it

Here’s Blake of Texas A&M Football on how he programs COD shuttles with the same intentionality as any other training quality:
✅ 3 cuts and 2 decels max per rep to keep the movement smooth, crisp, and fast
✅ Eccentric overload on the way in, heavier and faster into the cut
✅ Heavy-to-light load progressions across the block

Precise loading, micro-adjustments week to week, and objective data on every rep

That’s the difference between hoping for speed at the end of the program and knowing the program will get your athletes there

Pairing heavy and fast exercises is one of the better ways to potentiate athletes and get a little more out of them

But the missing piece has always been applying it horizontally

Check out this superset from Eric of the San Diego Clippers :
✅ Isokinetic 1-step: ramp up then push as hard as possible. Max force through the hip, knee, and ankle
✅ Ballistic 1-step: same movement, medium-light load. Those same muscles now producing speed

The idea has always been applied, now it’s the loading and exercises that really make this even more effective
