A little more from our trip to Wrocław last week.

We spent some time exploring the city by following the famous gnomes hidden throughout the streets 🗺️

The story behind them actually dates back to the 1980s, when communist authorities would paint over anti-government graffiti across the city. In response, the Orange Alternative movement began painting dwarf and gnome figures over the top instead.

Fast forward to 2001, when the first bronze statue was unveiled to commemorate that history. Today, there are over 1,000 gnomes across Wrocław, each with its own personality — often representing a profession, local business, or part of the city’s culture 🏛️

We used an app to track them and barely even scratched the surface 📱 Definitely a fun way to explore the city for adults and kids alike 👣

Little tip if you go looking for them 👀 Don’t just look on the ground… some are hidden in windows or even up lamp posts. If the app says “Słupnik”, that means lamp post! 💡

Such a unique way to discover the city and its history ✨

Don’t speak the lingo?
Download Google Translate (or a similar translation app) before you travel.

One of the best features is the camera tool — just point your phone at menus, signs or instructions and it translates them instantly for you 📱

I always try to learn a few words and phrases before going abroad, but this was SO helpful when I was in Poland 🇵🇱 especially with menus and transport signs!
