Our aerostatic balloon is the main attraction of the Agritourist Project of “Tierra Alta” (High Land) in Jayuya. Some facts:
-It is the first Aerostatic Balloon of Puerto Rico and it is located in Mameyes Borough at the Autonomous Municipality of Jayuya.
-The balloon is located on the Cerro Cumbre Alta (High Summit Hill) in an area known as Hacienda Santa Marina (Santa Marina Estate).
-This hill i
s 3,200 feet above sea level.
-The Balloon rises about 500 feet to reach 3,700 feet above sea level.
-From there you have a 360-degree panoramic view, and you can spot different attractions like the Cristobal Colon Statue, Arecibo Observatory (a radio telescope), the city of San Juan (even cruises ships arriving or living the port), different mountains and towns. You also have at your disposal 620 linear feet (189 linear meters) skirting the platform for your senses to enjoy all views at your own pace.
-This Air Balloon is filled with helium. It measures 100 feet high by 98 feet in diameter, one of the largest in the world and there is no other located in a mountain.
-It is the highest in the world rising to 3,700 feet above sea level because of its location.
-For safety, it is equipped with a lightning rod.
-It has the colors of the town’s flag: red, green and it has a petroglyph of the indigenous sun.
-The balloon has a capacity of up to thirty people with a flight time of 8 to 15 minutes. In the project you can also find La Hacienda Restaurant (with a varied menu that includes appetizers, pizza, hot potato, chicken wings, family offers with rice, meat, ribs,”mofongo” (one of the Puerto Rican delights made with fried mashed green (not ripe) plantains, mashed garlic and small pieces of crunchy pork rind) and more), a gift shop (with mugs, keychains, hats, towels, purses, shoes, umbrellas and more) with exceptional views that would blow your mind… and a coffee shop (with all types of cold and hot beverages made with one of the Islands best coffees from Hacienda San Pedro) in the parking lot. Discover what our town has to offer, with: a bowling alley, a family park (with mini-golf area, a 5D cinema, water fun area, animals museum -with scale figures and description of each animal- and a game room), more than 10 restaurants, different museums like “El Cemi (Indigenous artefacts), “Casa de La Historia”(The History House: promotes the story of Jayuya ), and “Casa Canales” (an historic house), “La Piedra Escrita” (The Written Stone) made by our indigenous people has been included in the National Registry of Historic Places and has a wooden corridor to reach the stone, a theater and lots of festivals like “Fiesta del Café” (Coffee Party), “Festival del Tomate” (Tomato Festival), “Fiestas Patronales” (Patroness Saint’s Festivities) and more.
