𝐎𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐨: 𝐓𝐞́𝐜𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨́𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐨
El Bosque Nacional El Yunque, en Río Grande tiene disponible un puesto temporero de técnico biológico GS-0404-04 para las temporadas de verano y otoño. Esta persona trabajará en un ambiente de equipo con un biólogo de vida silvestre, un ecologista de plantas e internos y voluntarios.
Aspirantes deben poder realizar trabajos de campo de manera independiente con la asistencia de internos y voluntario, según los protocolos y procedimientos existentes del Servicio Forestal. También, ayudará en la recopilación de datos, encuestas y mejoramiento del hábitat de vida silvestre. Las encuestas incluyen conteos de puntos de aves, estudios de condiciones de hábitat, estudios de acuafauna (snorkel), entre otras.
Conocimientos sobre el manejo de herramientas manuales y eléctricas empleadas en un entorno forestal para tareas de mantenimiento y mejoría de hábitat serán de beneficio, así como las prácticas de seguridad para prevenir lesiones e incidentes.
Se requiere saber identificar aves por vista y sonido para esta posición; estar familiarizado con la fauna y flora puertorriqueña; ser hábil en el uso de equipos de trabajo de campo, GPS, brújula, vehículos 4x4, caminar fuera de veredas, navegar por mapas, primeros auxilios, y habilidades generales. Necesitará utilizar GIS (ArcMap, ArcPad), NRIS y Aquatic SQS, interpretar fotografías aéreas y ortofotos de bosques, y medir árboles y plantas.
Fecha de comienzo: junio de 2022.
Trabajo a tiempo completo (40 horas a la semana)
Salario: $13.03/hr.

𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧
We are seeking one highly motivated individual for a temporary GS-0404-04 technician position on El Yunque National Forest in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico for the summer and fall field season. This person will work in a team environment with a wildlife biologist, plant ecologist, and a crew of interns and volunteers.
This position will be expected to be able to independently conduct field surveys, with the assistance of intern(s) and volunteer(s) according to existing protocols and procedures. The position will also assist with data collection, bird surveys, wildlife and fisheries habitat improvement, and managing habitat improvement projects. Surveys include protocol bird point counts, habitat condition surveys, stream surveys (snorkel), and more.
Knowledge of how to use and maintain hand and power tools used in a forest environment to effectively perform habitat maintenance and improvement duties would be beneficial. As well as knowledge of safety practices to prevent injuries.
Ability to identify birds by sight and sound is critical in this position. The successful applicant will also be familiar with Puerto Rican fauna and flora, skilled in using field survey equipment including GPS, compass, 4x4 vehicles, camping, hiking off-trail, navigating by maps, basic first aid, and general wilderness skills. Experience using GIS (ArcMap, ArcPad), NRIS and Aquatic SQS database, interpreting aerial and ortho photography of forests, measuring trees and plants, will be beneficial.
Starting date: June 2022.
Work will be full time (40 hours per week)
Pay: $13.03/hr.
