Rare sightings at QBV this month - Part 2

Meet Max a Swiss Shepherd and a rare breed. His 'dogenealogy' traces him to a wolf just a few generations ago, and apparently the females can be feisty. But Max was a fabulous guest - never barked and got on great with Scrabble & Bingo as other dogs are normally intimidated by him. Gorgeous now but uber gorgeous as a puppy!

Rare sightings at QBV this month - Part 1!

I was thrilled to see an Iberian Red fox on the dog walk the other morning. NO I wasn't lucky enough to photograph him - I was far too excited and so were Scrabble and Bingo who had picked up his scent way before I saw him.

BTW it was NOT red and the tail indeed seemed way bigger than it's body. They are apparently not rare, but this is the first time we have spotted one.

Yes we bought in a village called Bom Vento (Good Wind). And indeed we spent years living on sailboats and evading hurricanes, but we have never experienced winds like those provided by Storm Martinho, and we can't believe how close we were to losing part of our house and vehicles.

1 quad bike was parked 1mm to safety and the other had 20cm to spare, and Rich is feeling smug that he never finished off our balcony as it and our french window were completely encompassed as our gorgeous mature cork tree was uprooted and yes of course it was just after 2am and the power had gone out.

We are incredibly thankful to our friends and guests who helped in Operation Clean Up and indeed as one is ex Army he ensured that everything was carried out to military standard.

Some guests even slept through the whole thing and all accommodations survived unscathed, but I do have a great excuse for going shopping for some new Portuguese ceramic pots.
