In the famous Giraldo Square is the Church of Santo Antão.

This is undoubtedly one of the many magnificent religious monuments in the city of Évora.

Its construction dates from the beginning of 1557. It is an example of the end of the Renaissance period and presents the characteristics of the so-called churches-hall of the time.

The way it rises imposing over the square makes us want to enter, to want to see more. You just have to go up the steps and go through the huge door to be dazzled.

The 2nd stop at the Tour Alentejo Castles is Arraiolos.

📌This castle was built during the reign of King Dinis, around 1310, and a few years later was donated to Dom Nuno Álvares Pereira, to whom was given the title of Count of Arraiolos.

📌The fortification was remodelled during the times of the Restauração da Independência (Restoration of Independence) but was later abandoned and suffered severe damage in the 1755 earthquake.

📌The classification as National Monument, in 1910, would bring restoration works.

📌The Arraiolos Castle is quite original, since it’s surrounded by an elliptic-shaped wall, from where you can see the Alentejo fields for miles around.

Each time we return to Arraiolos, we are delighted!
