Orelheira is often served as a "petisco" (tapa) in the most traditional and rustic restaurants, specially in the north and centre of Portugal.

The pork ears are cooked and flavoured with olive oil, vinegar, garlic, salt and coriander. Simple and ready to eat!

Strange foods III

Enguias (eels)

No, we don't eat snakes. But snakelike eels are very appreciated in Portugal, specially in the north costal areas.

They are usually bought alive, and then cooked in many various ways.

Maybe by closing your eyes, you would try this delicacy :)

PlanPortugal will recommend you the best restaurants to try this popular dish.

Strange foods II

Caracóis (Snails)

Mostly enjoyed in the south of Portugal, this delicacy goes well with a cold beer in a sunny esplanade.

Caracóis can taste like fried onions, garlic, tomato or oregano, depending on the recipy. The texture is just like meat. Would you try it?

If so, PlanPortugal can help you finding the best places to enjoy this typical portuguese strange food.

Cabidela Rice or Pica-no-Chão. Depending on the region/restaurant.

This is one of the many strange foods you can find on typical portuguese restaurants. It's a fairly simple recipy.. Rice and chicken soaked on the chicken's blood with the right amount of vinegar.

Looks awful, tastes delicious ;)

PlanPortugal will help you finding this seasonal delicacy in the best restaurants. Count on PlanPortugal
